Bruh. I didn't know this can be so sweaty lol. Insane ball control. Somehow, because this was always in the offices I've been, it never crossed my mind that there is a competitive level. Of course there is.

Incredible match, Park's my new favorite player to be inspired from I think. That 5-bar is just beautiful. As a European I must say I love how you Americans cheer and create ambiance. Also seeing Billy in the back celebrating every goal of Park just makes me happy ^^ As always, thanks for the upload und great content <3

It's great to see a foos video. Most people have no idea what it takes to play at this level. I haven't played forever. I first played in the early 80s. I'm old school (Well the kids just call me old), but I really like the one bar goalie rod. When I got my first place I had a foosball table in the dining area. We use to play two on two speed round, it was like having a shot clock. You had to pass or shoot within 5 seconds - unless you called beer break!

Man I miss playing with the boys! I worked at Costco and every single break and lunch we would absolutely go at it. Being Costco, we eventually sold some tables, and 4 of us ended up buying them for at home. We would take turns hosting our own tournaments, so much fun

I grew up with banked corners. I would miss those. Is there a different league that uses those style tables? 2 defenders 1 goalie?
@modernfoosКүн бұрын
European tables have the banked corners and configuration you're referring to. Tornado (American) and Fireball (Asia) are the two main manufacturers that have flat tables.

Everything we record goes up either here on our main channel or on our secondary channel (kzbin.info). We believe all levels of foosball should be accessible (for free) to anyone who wants to watch it.

I've been enjoying the channel a couple of weeks now. It brings back great memories of the late 70's and early 80's. My buddy and I played doubles and hustled for money around our state. I'm well into my 60's now and my buddy passed a few years ago. He'd have loved this channel. 🤙

@modernfoos4 күн бұрын
This is a bracketed event (i.e., Championship Format) where the winners of each match progress on the winners side and the losers are moved into an elimination bracket where the best they can do is third place. The match you're watching here is the elimination bracket final.

How someone has been playing has no bearing on what is happening in the moment. That's the difference in thinking between a pro and, say, an expert.

I thought I was good at foosball (I easily beat all my friends all the time) but then, years ago, I had a chance to play with a few practice matches agains the 8-time world champion Moya Tielens (RIP). She played with a 9-0 handicap. She beat me all times 10-9. Once a pro has a chance to set up the shot, they can execute it faster than human's reaction time (about 500 ms) so the only way to stop those shots is by pure luck.
@modernfoos5 күн бұрын
It's only pure luck if you don't know what you're doing, but there is definitely a way to learn and employ good defense. If your reaction time is 500ms, that might be part of the problem. Average human response time is about half that, and quick players are even faster than that. Awesome you had a chance to play Moya. She was great. RIP indeed.
@spinpulse4 күн бұрын
@@modernfoos Correct. Typical visual reaction time is 250 ms. If you replay shots frame by frame, you can tell when the defender starts reacting to the shot. At 30 fps, 250 ms is about 8 frames (See goals at 03:41, 06:14, 12:05) It seems the front defender stays static during the shot and only the goalie moves back and forth.
@modernfoos4 күн бұрын
A few things... First, the video you're watching is 60fps, not 30. So 250ms is 15 frames, not ~8. Second, the three goals you timestamped aren't really relevant on this topic because Sam isn't using a race defense there, so he's not reacting at all. He's just putting his defense on the table and Sullivan picked the right shot on those. If you want to see his actual reaction time, go to 21:50 where Sullivan fakes and Sam jumps. At 60fps, his reaction time is six frames (i.e., 100ms). Had she shot the ball, he'd have been there unless she'd exploited his reaction and gone straight, which was covered in the commentary. So when you say defense is pure luck, it's really just a matter of not understanding the game. It's only lucky if you don't know what you're doing and you just happen to be in the right place. But for skilled defenders, luck is the tiniest fraction of impactful in winning.

Where is the final?you don't have
@modernfoos5 күн бұрын
This isn't 2022, so of course we have the final. The matches in each series (i.e., "Open Singles" here) are posted in the order they occurred. The final (as indicated by the term "final") in each series is the final match that is posted. The match you're watching here is the semifinal, which (due to math science) is played prior to the final, which hasn't been published yet. Hope this helps.
