I saw you post this on the chicomchestrig sub haha I'm doing something similar with an old m81 BDU I cut the sleeves off and made a vest out of...planning on using some repro chest rigs for the pouches or maybe sewing some molle sections on not exactly sure yet. I'm sewing by hand so it may take a damn while lol
@RealFakeGuns2 ай бұрын
Cool! Get a green chicom I have on the video. Cost the same as a repro on eBay. Repros loops tend to unlock them selves and fabric is too soft.
@ChristopherLambert-m7q2 ай бұрын
@@RealFakeGuns yeah true that, honestly id like to be able to get some camo pouches to match this vest, I do have a type 95 rig but no way I would ever or could ever bring myself to cutting it up lol. I'm thinking about buying a ranger vest, there is a company that sells them in several different camo patterns, m81, flecktarn, acu, desert tri color etc. I actually would really like to make a tac vest out of one of those better, it would be absolutely perfect.

It is built out of loose bits, not a whole gun stripped for the purpose. Real guns replace parts and those parts get scrapped or hit the market. So I put them to good use. I see it as preserving history as these are brought back from actual Vietnam.

From firing the real deal M79 don’t wrap the thumb of the firing hand over the stock , like the big game guns , keep it on the right hand sand. It prevents injury to the thumb and webbing by the safety catch under recoil
@RealFakeGuns2 ай бұрын
Thanks. But that sounds like post war advice. From what I can tell they hold and shoot it like I do during the Vietnam war.
@RealFakeGuns2 ай бұрын
I got the chance to talk to a USMC nam vet who carried the M79 this weekend (photos on my insta). Asked him about this and he had never heard about it, he held it like I do. So I think this is a post war thing and should not be done much like the modern low ready stance etc.
@joshuathomas85292 ай бұрын
@RealFakeGuns The modern low ready stance is their for a reason. Reason is simple keeping you from shooting your buddies while at the same time keeping you ready to engage and destroy the enemy's of the United States in close combat.
@RealFakeGuns2 ай бұрын
@@joshuathomas8529 You are talking about two different topics. Safety and how to hold the rifle. Low ready has no place in Vietnam reenactment.
@joshuathomas85292 ай бұрын
@RealFakeGuns low ready has everything to do with the wars I fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't know when it was invented, I would imagine troops in Vietnam used it just did not give it a name. When I went threw basic training in 2005 it was instructed to us how to cary a rife when on patrol.
