Came out from grocery store and my key wouldn't turn. 2008 civic 240k miles. Had to have it towed home. Convinced one of the wafers is jammed. Atleast I have piece of mind, what is actually wrong. Now just gotta figure out what I wanna do. Thanks

It could be doable without removing the entire assembly, just remove the screws on the imobilizer right here 1:29 and you can take out the lock that way. Just be 1000% sure that the pin or any other part don't fall off and get lost for ever and that the steering lock function works 100% without locking you up while driving after you have fixed it. But I guess its safer to just remove the entire thing so you have better control of the parts

If you don't have a pin kit or springs you can just remove the wafer that's sticking up and don't have to replace it it will work fine??? If anybody can help thank you!!!!

You are absolute awesomeness! Fixed my van and saved me $40. Just for aftermarket ignition assembly. It took me about 2 hours to do.😄

If you wanna get it out in one minute, use a 1/16 drillbit inside of the roll pin While it is on the steering column, just make sure you leave a key inside of the cylinder or else you’ll have to reset everything again.

This method save you big bucks and it is probaly the easiest fix. No reprogramming. You do not have to remove the whole assemble to get remove the kep tumblers.

is this the only way to pull out the roll pin ?, wouldn't some needle nose pliers do the job?

Normally, when there's something I need to fix that's multiple steps, what can go wrong DOES go wrong, so I wasn't super optimistic about my chances with the ignition on my 2009 Odyssey. I have to say, it went off without ANY problems. Your video saved me hundreds of $$$. I didn't have a punch, but I used a small trim nail to tap out the second pin nand it worked like a charm. Thank you so much.

Must the whole ignition wheel lock Assembly be removed just to take out the cylinder locking assembly to be removed?

Do you need to bother greasing the cylinder before re assemble or it doesn’t matter?

Nice. I am going to do this to my wife’s 2003 Pilot. Had a new key made and I programmed the immobilizer. Was told one of the tumblers was probably bent or worn. Thanks for the info 👍

BRILLIANT. First time I have signed into KZbin to comment on anything. Yes that impressed. I removed the lock cylinder ( drilled out and removed the initial roll pin ), leaving the whole assemble attached to the steering column. Thank You. Saved me a whole bunch of money. Very much appreciated.

THANK-YOU so much!!!!!!! it saved us big bucks! Notes: I found it easier to pry up the first little Pin after drilling the hole with the drill bit itself as it provided a bit of grip. The ignition of ours was also stuck sort of on an angle so I didn't have to drill that second hole to get that pin out. I also just took out all the wafers! The wafers were all messed. Its not like you can steal the car with out the coded key anyways and now it is smooth like butter :) These ignitions are a notorious problem with Honda, it was the second time it happened to our car, the first time it cost over 1000 for a mechanic to buy and install one and a week to actually get the part. So i was a little upset when it happened again. Again, thanks a million! PS we have a Honda FIT
