Li Ziqi (李子柒), the beloved content creator, has finally returned after three years, bringing with her a deep sense of reflection, cultural preservation, and inspiration. Known for her breathtaking videos that capture the essence of traditional Chinese culture, she opens up in this heartfelt interview about her life during her hiatus and her plans for the future. In these three years, Li Ziqi focused on family, spending precious time with her grandmother (奶奶, nǎinai) while exploring over 20 provinces across China. She visited more than 100 inheritors of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产, fēi wùzhí wénhuà yíchǎn), learning traditional crafts like blue calico dyeing (蓝印花布, lán yìnhuābù) and lacquerware (漆器, qīqì). Through these journeys, she not only uncovered the beauty of traditional techniques but also found new inspiration to integrate modern creativity into cultural preservation. Li Ziqi candidly shares her challenges-facing allergic reactions during her lacquerware project, emotional setbacks, and the constant pressure of creating meaningful content. Yet, her unwavering passion for storytelling shines as she discusses her desire to innovate and rejuvenate ancient crafts for modern audiences. In this video, you’ll discover: • How Li Ziqi spent the past three years cherishing time with her grandmother (“这几年时间充裕了以后,就有带奶奶出去走一走,看看外面的世界。” - “Over the past few years, I finally had the time to take my grandmother out for walks and explore the world.”) • The challenges she faced while mastering traditional crafts, such as lacquerware (“没想到我第一次割漆回家以后,脸肿成了电视机。” - “I didn’t expect that after my first attempt at cutting lacquer, my face swelled up like a TV screen.”) • Her inspiration from craftsmen she met and their stories of cultural heritage (“传统文化在他们那里,不仅仅是一个高大上的标签,而是一些烟火寻常的东西。” - “For them, traditional culture is not just a lofty label but a part of daily life.”) • The reason for her return and her new perspective on sharing her journey (“为了避免大家过多地担心和揣测,我决定出来跟大家说一下我这三年在做什么,未来做些什么。” - “To prevent unnecessary worry and speculation, I decided to share what I’ve been doing these past three years and what I plan to do in the future.”) This isn’t just a comeback-it’s a journey into the heart of culture, family, and tradition. As Li Ziqi puts it, “Preserving culture is not about keeping it static, but letting it breathe and evolve with the times.” 🌸 Follow her story as she continues to celebrate the beauty of traditional Chinese art and inspire the world. --- 🇨🇳Learn Chinese with Linda Huang (黄慧) ✨Private Class ✨Group/Corporate Training ✨Live Online Beginner Chinese Class - Learn to Speak Chinese in 1 Month Course Description: This intensive course is designed for absolute beginners eager to start speaking Chinese quickly and confidently. Have you ever wondered how to pronounce 李子柒 (Li Ziqi) correctly in Mandarin? In this video, I’ll teach you step by step how to say her name like a native speaker! We’ll break down her name into three parts-Li (lǐ), Zi (zǐ), and Qi (qī)-and go over the tones, pronunciation tips, and even some fascinating cultural insights. Li (lǐ) is her last name and is pronounced with the third tone. I’ll guide you through the technique: start low, dip lower, and then rise slightly. It’s a subtle but essential part of mastering Mandarin tones. I’ll also explain how in casual speech, the third tone doesn’t fully rise unless it’s emphasized, which makes it sound more natural. Zi (zǐ) has a special meaning. In her name, it’s not just a simple word for “child” or “son,” but it carries a deeper cultural significance. Did you know that “Zi” in classical Chinese represents wisdom and virtue? Famous figures like Confucius (孔子, Kǒngzǐ) and Laozi (老子, Lǎozǐ) include “Zi” in their names, showing their respect and honor in Chinese tradition. You’ll also learn how to pronounce “zǐ” with the third tone: keep your tongue flat, start low, dip lower, then rise gently. Qi (qī) is her given name and means “seven.” The number seven is symbolic in Chinese culture, often representing harmony, creativity, and good fortune. I’ll teach you the exact tongue and breath placement to pronounce “qī” like a pro-high, clear, and steady. Here’s a fun fact: her name, 子柒, sounds similar to “紫气” (zǐ qì), which appears in the famous phrase “紫气东来” (zǐ qì dōng lái). This phrase, meaning “purple energy from the East,” is a metaphor for blessings and good fortune. Such a meaningful name adds another layer of beauty to Li Ziqi’s elegant and peaceful persona. We’ll also cover a crucial tone sandhi rule! When two third tones appear together, like in lǐ zǐ qī, the first tone changes to a rising tone (similar to the second tone). This makes it sound like lí zǐ qī and ensures smooth and natural pronunciation. A common example of this tone change is the Mandarin greeting 你好 (nǐ hǎo), which becomes ní hǎo in conversation. By the end of this video, you’ll not only know how to pronounce 李子柒 correctly but also gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural and linguistic richness behind her name. Whether you’re a fan of Li Ziqi’s videos, a Mandarin learner, or someone interested in Chinese culture, this guide is for you! Practice with me at the end and let’s say her name together: lí zǐ qī, lí zǐ qī! 很好 (very good)! If i say 我吃过 if this is incorrect then why ? Can you explain
@huichinese.lindahuang
@huichinese.lindahuang Ай бұрын
The question “If I say 我吃过, is this incorrect? Why?” is an excellent one, as it delves into the nuanced differences between 吃了 and 吃过 in Mandarin Chinese grammar. Here’s a detailed explanation to address it: 吃了 vs 吃过 Both phrases indicate that the action of eating has occurred, but they emphasize different aspects of the action. 1. 我吃了 (Wǒ chī le) • Meaning: “I ate” or “I have eaten.” • Focus: It emphasizes the completion of the action and is often used to describe something that happened recently or is directly relevant to the current context. • Usage: Typically used in response to questions like 你吃了吗? (Have you eaten?) or when narrating a specific event. • Example: • A: 你吃了吗? (Nǐ chī le ma?) - Have you eaten? • B: 我吃了。(Wǒ chī le.) - I have eaten. 2. 我吃过 (Wǒ chī guò) • Meaning: “I have eaten (before).” • Focus: It emphasizes experience-that the action has been done at least once in the past. • Usage: Used when talking about general experiences, not necessarily tied to a recent or specific event. • Example: • Q: 你吃过北京烤鸭吗? (Nǐ chī guò Běijīng kǎoyā ma?) - Have you ever eaten Peking Duck? • A: 我吃过。(Wǒ chī guò.) - I have eaten it (before). Why 我吃过 Might Be Incorrect Here If someone asks “你吃了吗?”, they are inquiring about a specific moment-whether you have eaten recently. In this context, 我吃过 is not the appropriate response because it shifts the focus from completion to experience. To respond correctly, you could say “我吃了” or “我吃过了”, as both convey that the action of eating is complete in the relevant context. Key Takeaway • Use 吃了 when referring to a completed action in a specific or recent context. • Use 吃过 when referring to an experience in the past without linking it to the immediate present. • Saying “我吃过了” can also work, as the particle 了 adds a sense of completion and relevance to the present context.

In this video, we dive into the interesting world of Chinese nicknames for two well-known American political figures: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In Chinese-speaking communities, nicknames for public figures are often creative, humorous, and sometimes even sarcastic, reflecting a blend of language play and cultural insights. Donald Trump’s Chinese Nicknames One of Trump’s most popular nicknames is 川建国 (Chuān Jiàn Guó), which translates to “Nation Builder.” “川” (Chuān) is derived from the phonetic translation of Trump, while “建国” (Jiàn Guó) means “nation builder.” This nickname is a humorous take, joking that Trump is a “secret agent” whose actions indirectly benefit China. Another playful name is 川宝 (Chuān Bǎo), or “Precious Chuan,” using the affectionate term “宝” (Bǎo) or “treasure” sarcastically. Trump’s third nickname is 懂王 (Dǒng Wáng), meaning “King of Knowing.” This was inspired by Trump’s famous line, “Nobody knows more than I do,” often used when he claims expertise on various topics. Additionally, his standard phonetic translation in Chinese, 川普 (Chuān Pǔ), is sometimes humorously twisted into 床铺 (Chuáng Pù), which means “bed,” further playing on the sounds of his name. Kamala Harris’s Chinese Nicknames Kamala Harris’s formal Chinese name is 贺锦丽 (Hè Jǐnlì). “贺” (Hè) is chosen for its phonetic resemblance to Harris. “锦” (Jǐn) means “beautiful fabric,” and “丽” (Lì) means “beautiful.” Together, her name evokes grace and elegance, but there’s a lighter, more playful side to how Chinese speakers refer to her. Fans often call her 哈哈姐 (Hāhā Jiě), where “哈哈” (Hāhā) means “laughing out loud,” and “姐” (Jiě) means “big sister.” This nickname, “Haha Sister,” reflects her upbeat and positive public persona, conveying warmth and friendliness. Each nickname reflects a unique perspective on these public figures, mixing phonetic translations, puns, and cultural humor. Chinese nicknames often blend language with popular perceptions, making these names more than just translations-they’re expressions of personality and public opinion. So, which nickname is your favorite? Join us in the comments to share your thoughts on these creative nicknames and learn more about how language and culture intertwine in Chinese-speaking communities. --- 🇨🇳Learn Chinese with Linda Huang (黄慧) ✨Private Class ✨Group/Corporate Training ✨Live Online Beginner Chinese Class - Learn to Speak Chinese in 1 Month Course Description: This intensive course is designed for absolute beginners eager to start speaking Chinese quickly and confidently. Yes, you can learn Chinese characters through HSK standard courses and workbooks. For practice, I recommend using the [Purple Culture Chinese-English Dictionary](www.purpleculture.net/chinese-english-dictionary/). Shrimp and Crab general basically loosely means Worthless Creatures in English. The problem with Chinese is the idioms can't be translated character for word and the meaning has to be translated in four characters together.
@huichinese.lindahuang
@huichinese.lindahuang 2 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right! The idiom '虾兵蟹将' literally translates to 'shrimp soldiers and crab generals,' but its true meaning conveys a sense of worthlessness or insignificance. There are two ways to translate idioms: 直译 (literal translation) and 意译 (free translation). The literal translation focuses on the individual characters, while the free translation captures the overall meaning and context. In this case, '虾兵蟹将' refers to individuals who might appear to have authority or importance but are actually quite trivial, emphasizing the importance of understanding cultural context in interpreting such expressions.
