To me the series dropped when it turned from a coming of age comedy and turned into a teenage soap opera, and that one sad/dramatic melody became 90% of the soundtrack for each episode. They lost so much of the lightheartedness in college, it was disappointing.

ABC's TGIF block died beginning in 1997, stemming from a combination of aging sitcoms like Family Matters and Step by Step moving to CBS (who started - and ended - their own family-friendly Friday night sitcom line-up in 1997-98 called "The Block Party"), the over-saturation of supernatural/magic type shows (Sabrina the Teenage Witch and new series You Wish and Teen Angel, the latter of which both lasted only one season), the failure of Two of a Kind in the 1998-99 season (which was the last sitcom produced by the previously reliable Miller-Boyett group) starring the Olsen twins the following year, and ultimately the ending of Boy Meets World after seven seasons and Sabrina... moving to The WB after the 1999-2000 season. ABC would bring back the TGIF brand for the 2003-05 & 2018-19 seasons, but it never met the same success it had before.

Ugh. They look so good. My favorite white people. I don't care if any of them are racists behind closed doors. These are my favorite whites and Jews. Forever. The best looking cast ensemble of the 90s.

The interstitials were special. Like USA Up All Night and Monstervision, in the vein of the monster movie host. I'd give anything to find them all and rebuild the Friday night blocks.

As a TGIF addict, and someone who loved BMW... I think this show was one of the weaker ones now after rewatching. Also, I've been watching Pod Meets World. Season 1 of boy is amazing, as is 2, 3 was strong. I think season 4 and 5 it starts some things I hate, especially the arc of Shawn. It is insanely redundant and pointless. They found idiotic ways to keep separating Cory and Topanga just to put them back together again. Shawn's over and over crying about how living in a trailer park is why he'll never succeed and why nobody loves him. It's almost the ultimate in Hollywood's hatred for middle America, aka flyover states. They just kept repeating this crap over and over. 0 growth. Also, as a Texan Waco was with us for DECADEA. The freaking Gaines' are probably why Waco has recovered. The Cody years of Step by Step are actually superior, and Family Mattera before Urkle took over was amazing.

or instead of being "wrong" or "ahead of it's time" it could be because she was in middle school to start and at the end she grew as a character into a college student. We all change over time and it worked? just a personal thought. I mean people get dramatically different over time and that age range especially.

The biggest problem with the show is that they inexplicably squandered a lot of characters, like getting rid of Minkus and Mr. Turner with absolutely no explanation.

When ‘Mr. Fenny’, during the last episode, told them to “do good”, I started crying. Although I wasn’t in the demographic, I enjoyed watching the characters interacting with each other. I was in the 18 to 49 demographic when it aired.

The reason Boy Meets World worked, and is honestly rewatchable to this day is no one was perfect like other sitcoms. Everything wasn't too nice and tighty. And people identify with that.

The choice to have Ben’s brother play the creep teacher was incredible. Not only because it’s such a “hey, you know your brother? Guess what!” when Ben comes to work one day. But also, picking someone who was a famous person in his own right and someone audiences had positive and trusting feelings for to play a character that’s meant to be positive and trusting and betrays that is a GUT PUNCH.

Maybe I misunderstood, but it seemed like you said Harley Kiener was played "in a recurring role by a young Adam Scott." Danny McNaulty played the original Harley, and Adam played a "replacement" character to Harley as a character named "Griff."

Very nice video. Someone else probably pointed it out already, but you didn't mention the names of some of the legendary celebrities that you showed in your clips. Peter Tork of the Monkees was also in the scene you showed with Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz, and Buddy Hackett was sitting with Soupy Sales.
