I looking buy the JoT 2 with the eq. My concern is that I was planning to connect my Sony zx707 with a 4.4 to xlr balance connection to the JoT 2. So you think I will get the hum. Thank for you help.

Also those caps you put on the rca will introduce an issue-especially if you left the stems screwed into the rca caps. Think of it. Those caps are metal and the short out the plugs as well as getting radio signals😂

I wonder how to implement Lokius with Jotunheim if it already has a builtin DAC and we aren't using a dedicated one?

You don't. There is no separate output for the built in dac. You know ahead of time you may want an EQ and buy a separate DAC. Is it schitty? Yes. Just like the power switch always on the back.

way to go my friend!!, your review of the Schiit Audio was detailed and it now confirmed my future purchase of my Jotunheim 2 with the Bifrost 2 DAC. I am planning to buy both devices and your video just pushed me to the edge to purchase both items. Thanks for your review and feedback on both of the products. Ive been eyeing Schiit products for a while now and so now is the time for me to make my purchase. at some point after both these purchases, I will be adding the LOKIUS to complete the stack. On Another Note: EQ Rules!!...... I dont care what these So called Audiophiles think of purity of sound. I believe in adding some seasoning every once in a while to songs that had bad recordings.

so i am very much a Schiithead, and love the setup you have going here. I prefer the discreet pieces so instead of running the JOT and the Lokius...i use the Magnius, Lokius and Modius as my main headphone setup. I do not care about MQA (a discussion for another day), so the Dragonfly cobalt was a bit of overkill for me. I do hoverer enjoy the DAC the JOT uses, as they use similar ones in other models..... but on my MAC i do not use a EQ because i can get good ones as software EQ for cheap or free. What has your experience been with the? Also, the panamax is VITAL to silencing electrical noise in that set up. nicely done.

“Shithead”! I love it. I do have adhd so I’m going out of order here. If I didn’t have the balanced headphones I would have gone with the magnius. I should have stuck with the dragonfly red and not purchased the cobalt. But at the time I wasn’t planning on buying another DAC. I fell into the rabbit hole of DACs 🤦♂️ I like the portability of the dragonfly’s and use them for that. But love the modius and the bifrost. I am working on a comparison video for all three dragonflies. I also thought about doing a rig tour but didn’t want to come across as bragging or arrogant. As for the EQ I use the EQ software that is in iTunes. It is free and is already installed you just have to open it. But tidal doesn’t have an EQ and that was one of the reasons for purchasing the Lokius. That and the instant change. Some EQ software has a lag. Thanks for watching.

@@hopsonz28 there is no difference between balanced and single ended. It all depends how the amp is build from the ground up. A balanced dac will sound better with XLR or 4.4 pentagon unless you own smsl or topping amps which both single ended and XLR sound exactly the same

What’s wrong with an EQ? Musical engineers use EQ, artists use EQ’s. But we’re not supposed too? Do you use the EQ in your car? As a former musician and someone who has engineered music. Most musicians don’t really care about the mix. They just want the music out and on tour to promote the album. Some engineers don’t mix very well and ruin the music. Bass could be too high or too low etc…

@@hopsonz28 I wanted to hear the modius in its purest form. Yes I do eq the speakers in the car bc they suck. Now if the speakers in the car had a flat frequency response I wouldn’t eq them do. I am a bit of an audiophile nerd with a bunch of headphones. The only time I eq them just a little is when I play FPS game just to make the foot steps louder

I did listen to the Modius without the EQ. But I didn’t put that part in because wanted to do two reviews in one. But here’s what I heard without the EQ. It sounded a lot like the Audioquest Dragonfly red. However it can come across a little “V” shaped sounding. But it’s not. It will enhance the bass and treble more than the mids. I tested it with all kinds of music. Big band jazz, symphonic, r&b, doo whop, metal, rap, and pop. It sounds best with metal, rock, pop, r&b, big band and symphonic in that order. That is my personal opinion though. Remember the new modius has a new DAC chip (ESS 9028) and not the AK4493chip that mine has, as well as a new input. It is now a “c” connector which has better and more consistent data control. I will be releasing a new video reviewing the bifrost 2/64. Hopefully by Monday.

Yes connect the Modious to a cd or DVD player then the out to your receiver. My set up is CD player using an toslink cable to the in of the Modious and rca out to the in of my receiver
