It's been years since Gorguts announced their reformation and started teasing Colored Sands, but I still watch this sometimes just because it still seems so mysterious. When this video was posted it was the ultimate hype. Like somewhere, right now, Luc Lemay is in a dark room plotting the next Gorguts album. And it's gonna be badass.

Even after Gorguts' new album has been out for a couple years, I still come back and listen to this jam from time to time. I think it's the nostalgia/anticipation of the reformation of the band that makes it so special to me. I listened to it so many times. I wish there was a song with these riffs in it.

+John Hooke There is a song. It's called Ember's Voice, on the Colored Sands record.

Well I'll be god damned, I can't believe I didn't notice that myself. Thanks for looking out bro!

This has a better sound than the album version tbh. The warmth of the guitar and unfiltered drums make this worthy of being a hidden track.
@thenecropolitan11 жыл бұрын
This is so cool. This is the song that became "Ember's Voice" on their newest record, Colored Sands. If you listen to the song now, you can hear just how much Kevin and Colin from Dysrhythmia add to the band. Great tune, definitely one of my faves on the record...

It seems the song starts out with a normal 4/4 (or 8/8), then at 1:05 it changes to 3/4 (or 6/8), and at 1:47 it has 1 bar of 2/4, then (est. 1:49) back to 4/4. I didn't check the rest, but I guess it's pretty straight forward stuff. Most of the advanced stuff in Gorguts lies in the (dis)harmonic patterns and rhythm IMHO. If you wanna check out annoying time signatures, read the notes for Stravinsky's Rite of Springs.

@Steve128967 ya and Quo Vadis and Kataklysm are pretty good too. There's also ion dissonance, beneath the massacre and despised icon but not really in to them.

@999dod999 Oh man you're lucky... Yeah almost every semi-well known band from QC is amazing honestly. Augury, Voivod, Cryptopsy, Obliveon, Martyr, Vengeful, and of course Gorguts, all incredible. Well.. Cryptopsy not so much anymore, but yeah.
@TheDrumminMan0814 жыл бұрын
@999dod999 Nope, even back in the OSDM days they were incredible. I would be very proud if I were Luc, they have a perfect discography and I imagine the upcoming album will be one of the best albums to come out in 2010/2011. Although something that came out recently that I adore (also from Quebec) is The Omnipresent Curse by Vengeful, which incidentally has some vocals from Luc on the song Transcending (which is amazing)
@TheDrumminMan0814 жыл бұрын
@999dod999 I think John does a good job, but yeah Jamie is a monster. Ulcerate is certainly very Gorguts inspired, though not on the same level of quality IMO (still amazing regardless)

I'm getting really excited at the idea of a new Gorguts album with Luc at the helm. I think it's safe to say that he's the most talented composer in extreme metal. I do hope that Longstreth and Marston will only provide technical skill, though; they're amazing instrumentalists, but I don't think they're nearly as nuanced as composers. I'm worried the album will get bogged down.
@falconer643915 жыл бұрын
Listen to Informis infinitas inhumanitas. Even if that was true it doesnt make the riffs easier to play by any means.
@falconer643915 жыл бұрын
If its simple than post a video of you playing it. Mike flores is a beast, the vocal patterns are technical, all aspects of the music are intense and technical.
