Would assist-hooks, on the top of the metal jig, be helpful? Legal?
@HUNTFISHMANIAC2 ай бұрын
I put a “trailer hook” attached to the top of the jig sometimes yes. Works well and it’s legal. 👍

I will remove the bottom hook and run just a top hook sometimes if it’s snaggy

My best day ever halibut fishing was northeast of Port Hardy in Shelter Pass. Caught a 77-pounder and a 101-pounder within 15 minutes of each other. Went back many times and never caught another. 😆

You mentioned one was a large female, how did you discern/know that?
@HUNTFISHMANIAC3 ай бұрын
females are much larger than the males. The males are also “skinnier” and long, slender looking. Males also tend to be much more vibrant in colour. A Ling cod 15+ lbs will be female 99% of the time.

Good show - lots of fish. Question: I don't want GPS coordinates or anything, but generally where did this take place?

Looks like Vancouver Island Area to me. If not that definatly the British columbia Coast somewhere.

Great video. I wonder just how BIG of a lure one would have to use to only get around one fish on per HOUR (on average)....but they would most all be absolute FREAKING MONSTER-sized bottomfish!? A normal/typical-sized lure doesn't allow the genuine monsters enough time to get to that lure, with this fast of hookups (not a bad "problem" to have, though!).

New subscriber. 👍 100 miles up the coast from where? Everywhere in BC is literally 100 miles up the coast from somewhere. 😆 Sea cucumbers are very tasty, but I've never heard of skinning them. You slice them open lengthways and remove the 8 or 10 muscle strips. Fry those up in garlic butter and they're an excellent appetizer.

If you are wading when you don't fully know the depth, you should always wade slightly upstream so you have a shot at getting back to where you came from and not getting stuck. Also, wear a snug wading belt so air can be trapped in the waders and prevent water from coming in.

Nice trail of bent Yellow Eye behind the boat, at least you released one properly for the camera.
@HUNTFISHMANIAC5 ай бұрын
Well if you’ve ever used a descender you’d know that they do pop up occasionally and need to be sent back down. I release ALL the yellow eyes properly with the descender. Thanks for watching!!

This may be the dumbest advice, good way to fall on your back and fill your waders immediately.

Well that’s no good but unfortunately as you probably know they do pop up and need another go on the descender sometimes! it’s too bad they don’t open it up again for us cause it sucks when they pop up after sending them back down.

Hey guys, great video. I'm new to detroit river walleye fishing. We're going over next month. I've heard guys get snagged a lot there. How many Jigs should I have on a typical day on hand for that? Thanks and good fishing to you!
@HUNTFISHMANIAC7 ай бұрын
Hey mark. Thanks for watching. The river is pretty big so in general some drifts are definitely snaggy while others aren’t at all. I always like to have 4 main size jigs being 3/8, 1/2 , 5/8 and 3/4 oz. Depending on water temp and how the fish are reacting I like to start as small and slow as possible. Later on when the water warms up I go heavier and really smack the bottom and be sure to have a good range of colours for each as well. If you can stay vertical you shouldn’t lose too many. ( 3-4 a day max) That said I don’t lose any a lot of days depending on where I’m fishing of course. Hope this helps. I’ll be pounding the river in May this year after I’m done guiding spring bear so might see you out there! Make sure you like and subscribe and reach out for any other tips that could help you out. 👍
