Indeed everyone seems to care but I'm not sure why.... The price changes ENORMOUSLY depending on geological conditions, labor rates, ease of access etc, so it won't even be a ballpark for you. But people do seem to care. $50k and change was the cost

My 10 oz Ember exploded on me today! Luckily i I had put it the sink but the fire & smoke were pretty intense and I'm fortunate not to have been burned.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 күн бұрын
Oh my! Anything you can pinpoint being the cause? What were you doing with it when it exploded?!
@theodoreweidman2 күн бұрын
@ I had just taken the cup from my Kurig and put it on the counter in order to throw the pod away. My wife heard a "pop" . I discovered a small hole in the cup’s base. I put the cup in the sink and sparks started flying from the base. Then it exploded with fire and smoke. It completely melted the base. Soot &ash were all over the kitchen. I was amazed that I wasn’t burned at all. Close call!

Ingenious idea!! How much energy do you pull from these panels laying flat like that?
@LetsOverthinkThis3 күн бұрын
Yield is almost perfect in summer with the sun overhead but in winter the angle is obviously pretty wrong. Days are shorter which also cuts yield but my guess is the lower sun angle vs panel orientation probably kills a third of production.

Your channel name caught me. Very thorough presentation and explanations, thanks! The main difference here in N Cal is that a bentonite seal is required for the first 20 feet (not concrete). And we use a stainless wire for hanging the pump, with continuous poly pipe. $10k for 220', which is "well" worth it.

Hi Jesse, Do you think the batteries can be replaced on this with some tinkering? I saw a KZbin video in which a guy opened the ember travel mug. There are hidden screws at the bottom on the travel mug. Not sure about this one. There has to be a way to replace the batteries. Most reviewers are not engineers like you, so you are the perfect person to ask this.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 күн бұрын
I don't know for sure since I don't own one but the issue is likely not whether you can remove them but what batteries you'd replace them with. My bet is that the battery in it is a custom lithium pouch and not standard cells. If I'm right it wouldn't matter if you could swap it since nobody would sell you that pouch. At any rate sorry to say my guess is that you're out of luck 😢

love this idea, what kind of wind speeds do you get in your area?
@LetsOverthinkThis24 күн бұрын
25 mph or so very regularly (every week or so) and probably 50 or 60 once a year. It is a high wind area which means 120mph is possible. I wouldn't expect the magnets to survive that. This is a temporary mounting solution.

You can't pull a building permit here without your own water, a policy I agree with. Though you are grandfathered in if your well runs dry. So it's a moot point, but it would certainly be cheaper in the short term 😉

What internet service are you using? I can't get any wifi camera to work unless it's on the internet. Below us my issue. You don't want these floodlight camera if it's wifi because none work when Internet goes out leaving you with NO LIGHT and NO SECURITY. They can make the camera and light work without internet so you at least have your light and camera local for security like you can connect to a printer by wifi without internet. Don't buy ANY wifi light camera unless they allow them to work when the internet drops. I found this out the hardway when a hurricane hit us we had power but internet dropped then we had ZERO outside light or Security. So to disable your security and light all someone has to do is just cut your internet.

great video, my biggest question is how much did it cost? I would assume it was by the foot.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 ай бұрын
Around $55k. There is a base fee as I recall, and the pump cost is fixed. But the drilling and the PVC pipe all of the way back up are indeed both by the foot!
@StereoSpace2 ай бұрын
Fascinating. I'm a little shocked you found water at 480 feet. I would have thought you'd need to drill much deeper, maybe 1-2,000 feet.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 ай бұрын
Standing water was quite a bit higher (something like 180 feet!) which is even more impressive. We just only were able to check after they had drilled to 480 and pulled out all of the drilling rod!
@ernestestrada24612 ай бұрын
I know this was 2 years ago, but approximately how much did it cost you to drill a well in the southwest The United States.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 ай бұрын
$55k or so but this varies literally by neighborhood depending on geology, altitude, ease of access etc. I would definitely not use this as any guide for what it costs in the southwest United States. It could be $15k or $70k depending....

The standing water level is around 180 as I recall but because these are not high producing wells, you don't know you hit it until you pull all of the rod out and wait overnight for it to rise again.

So I noticed that they using galvanized steel pipe in this well. I myself wouldn't use any galvanized metal parts in my well or my house I've had that at the water meter and the galvanized pipe rusted out so I got my sheval out and dug a hole and had a plumber come out replaced the galvanized with brass pipe. Problem solved.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 ай бұрын
The 600 feet that conveys water is sch120 PVC with stainless steel couplings. there is only 20 feet of steel at the top, surrounded by concrete to keep the well head in place and prevent contamination. Where did you see galvanized?
@raystevens6872 ай бұрын
@LetsOverthinkThis it looked like there was this metal pipe with plastic parts with vavle where you could turn on and off this was towards the end of the video.
@LetsOverthinkThis2 ай бұрын
@@raystevens687 OH! Lol, yeah, the 18" stub out at the top? Yeah I may swap that out when we plumb it into the underground line leading to the storage tank. I'm not a fan of galvanized in this application either, but it's not very much. Thanks for the comment!
