In my mid 60s, I find myself here. I had a yearning to write in my late 20s, seriously I mean. I was married then. It was early in our days of coupledom. She to was a writer, a good one too, and I was besotted by her ability. She laughed at my early efforts, stylised offerings of prepositions and convolutions, conjunctions and caveats. She choked me with with praise, so faint that made me fade. Many years have passed now, where the road more travelled have led me to a barren land. I find that I have brought only a pencil and a a notebook, half filled. I have pages left to fill and little time. I have work to do.

Wait hold on…writing drafts are important. If not the most important. I didn’t realize this until this past semester where I became so fed up with my writing that I had to do multiple drafts of multiple different papers when I normally just do a one and done thing. Robert Graves once said “there’s no such thing as good writing, only good rewriting.” I wrote multiple drafts for a final essay for one of my classes until I finally struck gold. The professor offered to submit it into a contest for undergraduate writing at my university. Another professor of mine told me that if you’re feeling dissatisfied with one draft and feel a tiny bit better on the next, then it’s a sign that you’re becoming a better writer. Idk, point being, don’t take this video too seriously

He means to provoke the flames of passion and spiritual resolution when doing the things that demand every ounce of your soul to rightly serve. He's saying not to go through the motions without that inner fire blazing behind your eyes to illuminate the world beyond them. A writer gets to a point where's it's enough to just write for himself or herself, but at some point the cage of pages needs to be unlocked and the world can decide; does this resonate with me? And if it doesn't resonate with the masses or the bartenders or the ballet teachers, that's fine, BECAUSE the writer knows, it was never written for them, it was only written for him or her. It always starts with an audience of one.
