Yeah I'm not against making Stella abusive in response to his cheating (cause "It's not ok to abuse or kill someone for cheating" is something that needs to be said way more often), or prior to it. I'm against making Stella a bland character with nothing to show for it outside of the male characters and the plot in general. Especially when it's to prevent Stolas from being held accountable for his actions. The show also likes to act like he was the only one who was forced into the marriage, which I think is kinda ridiculous since that could also add to Stella's character. In my opinion (though not entirely original) the show could make her hate Stolas and genuinely love Octavia. She could be concerned about how she (Octavia) would be treated for being a female in royalty, by not only being forced into a marriage, but also being forced to have children like she (Stella) was. I would even add onto the lore and say that the goetia are groomed into !ncest if they don't go through with the outside arranged marriage, and have that be the reason why Andrealphus was supposedly being so flirtatious with her (or at least to hide the bad writing). That could be one of her main goals as Octavia's mother, to prevent that from happening to her daughter. But that's just me I guess.

Stolas is by far the worst character in the show and i really wish they found a way to write him out of the story at the turn of season 2. if it were me, i'd have Stella hire IMP to kill Stolas in exchange for access to the grimoire. it would make sense since at that point, Blitzo seemingly hated Stolas and only slept with him out of obligation. him having feelings for stolas lowkey came out of nowhere

Stella couldve been a dark reflection of Stolas: someone who also grew up isolated and unloved and seeking that love but whereas Stolas soon learns from his mistakes and tries to improve, Stella never quite learned, always demanding love but never doing anything to earn it. Sure she had epiphanies but she would brush them off cuz to her, shes done nothing wrong. Maybe out of loneliness, Stolas and Stella did try to make their marriage work, tried to be a loving, fairy tale couple but where Stella didnt mind living a lie (maybe she even grew to love her image of Stolas), Stolas was suffering forcing himself to love someone who he can never romantically love but admittingly, Stolas is just as lonely and affection starved so if he has to lie to himself and hurt himself, then sure. Also, the facade isnt perfect either, Stella is pretty controlling on how she wants "Prince Charming" act and is violently possessive towards him while Stolas is aloof and impatient with Stella with a "Im trying my best not to snap at you" restraint. Then the flood gates come out since that night with Blitz and everyone's worlds come crashing down. Stella is forced to confront the lie she and Stolas made, Octavia is seeing the dirty laundry coming out and Stolas has to decide whether he should go back to living a comfortable life albeit under an oppressive lie or live freely but at the cost of everything, from his family life to his reputation to his crown But nah, lets turn a toxic albeit justiably enraged woman into a bland villain whose claqs got sanded down to the bone and whose only goal is tormenting her husband to justify cheating and absolve her unfaithful, hypocrite husband from any wrong doing.

There isn't a single character in the show that isn't just utterly awful. It's hell after all. It seems naive to expect multidimentional characters in this kind of edgy "mature" comedy. Two seasons in and we never have seen Stella and Octavia interact, that's the kind of writing we're dealing with. Like an artist who can't draw hands and resorts to covering them up with sleeves and pockets.

Cheating is never okay. Doesn't matter what circumstances. That aside. My problem with Stella is that she is now just a villain who is evil for the sake of being evil. And that is... sorry. Garbage writing. Or in the words of Deadpool: "Well. That's just lazy writing." I don't mind Stella being the villain and evil and what not. But i do want to know WHY she is evil. What did happen to her, that she became this absolute evil bitch she is now? And no. Don't excuse what Stolas did. Cheating is never okay. Even in his situation. Be an adult about it. Talk to your partner, tell her you gonna keep up the facade, but you will have your sexual intercourse with someone else. Not just hump (or get humped) whatever you can get your hands on. (Or in his case trying to fuck your childhood friend...) Also the whole arc with his childhood did only ruin the character of Stolas to me. I can't try to sympathize with someone who is cheating already. But now i am supposed to think of someone as cute in that episode, if the previous episodes all just showed him in nearly only adult and sexual situations? That's disgusting. Sorry.

They just solve all problem by making her charactor as cheap stupid trash. But it dosent really line up with season 1.. + they do this for give stolas reason to cheating. Try to make it good things. .... But its still not. Cheating is wrong bc of how it affect around. Its still problematic behave. I just really hate this as plot abd now for moral. They still could make sympathetic storyline while treat cheating as what it is. Since they are unable to have have happy family bc of thier lack of choice of thier life.

As someone who related heavily to Octavia I was so upset when they so obviously tried to justify Stolas's actions by making Stella just completely evil. Octavia has every right to feel the way she feels. But it's so obvious that Stella was only made to justify Blitz's and Stolas's relationship and it infuriates me That were lead to sweep Octavias feelings under the rug. That's why my problem with Stolas x Blitz grows each time an episode excusing Stolas actions.

Georgia Leahly deserves better for her voice acting. She kills it. I thought that maybe the two loved each other once, but grew apart and felt pressured into resentment by the marriage. The way Stolas was tripping over his words in LuluLand, it made it sound like maybe they did love each other at one point. That would have been much more compelling, and while it doesn’t have to make her sympathetic, it gives it complexity. Helluva Boss has gone downhill ngl. It was nice while it lasted I guess

The irony behind the deliberate decision to write Stella like this, is how while the writers wanted to justify Stolitz in the most lazy and easy way possible, they don't realize they've also completely RUINED another character that was well written in the process... Octavia. Why? Simple. During her first appearance she is presented as a child who's life has been difficult due to living in a house where her parents don't love each other. Her depiction was pretty accurate to how a real teenager going through the same circumstances would be like, and you can understand where where she comes from. Its important to note that Octavia mentions how she misses "when her parents didn't hate each other", and how in the first flashback of her childhood, we see Stella and Stolas sharing bed, something that current Stella wouldn't do in a million years and instead would force Stolas to sleep in a dog bed. This HEAVILY implies Stella and Stolas at the very least tolerated each other, which is already a contradiction to what Season 2 is trying to make us believe. Going back to Octavia's first appearance though, whenever she interacted with her dad, she was not subtle about how much she blamed him for everything, and that's justifiable within the current context since all we knew at the time is that Stolas fucked up, it IS his fault shit went down because he had his adventure with Blitz out of a selfish act. Octavia pointing fingers at Stolas back then was something we could understand as an audience, and judging from Stola's reaction, he too knew that well. But now... Stella is a cartoony and over the top villain who turns out to have abused Stolas their whole marriage, even before he cheated. And mind you, she wasn't subtle or fake about it, she had nothing to hide at all, she blatantly shit talked Stolas and made public events that directly mocked him. So, if this is the route we wanna go... If this is the context we want to have... What the fuck Octavia? Not only would this contradict her memories directly, but also makes her actions look stupidly unfair. Why blame Stolas for everything when you have a Looney Tunes villain right there? Why say "your parents didn't use to hate each other" when apparently they did the whole time? I've seen multiple people argue that Octavia knew no better because young teens don't realize or understand how adult work, and that's understandable... But here is the thing, teens don't point fingers with such ease and blame one parent, they simply feel overwhelmed about the situation since it confuses them. Realistically speaking if we go by this logic, Octavia shouldn't be able to point fingers at anyone and blame either parent for the fall down of their household. Another argument I see is how "Stella put up a facade" or "manipulated her into believing she's good"... But as I said already, she has made it clear she doesn't give a shit, and on the contrary, she wants EVERYONE to know how much she loves tormenting Stolas, so it's impossible Octavia never caught onto this too at some point in her life. So yeah... It's insane how the writers never realized that, by writing Stella like this, they're also assassinating an already existing character too.

I agree with pretty much all of your comment. Making Stella cartoonishly one dimensional actually took away the nuance of the situation and ruined Octavia's characterization.

Character flip of the century; I predict that if Helluva Boss runs long enough that Stella will flip from antagonist to reluctant ally to Stolas/IMP/Octavia when Andrealphas lets slip to her that he must kill her daughter in order to get what "they" (in actuality just 'he") wants. Is it out of character for her? Maybe a tad, but, there is a large difference between being too selfish to tend to a scared child while you're sleeping, giving them a distant presence of yourself for their childhood, and...just letting them get snuffed out while you watch, uncaring that the one thing that exists that proves you once existed will die before you. Andrealphas arranging for Octavia to be killed is a bridge too far, and that bridge is Stella's pathway back to reason.

What I really really liked about Helluva Boss in the very beginning was Stolas being shown as morally wrong in cheating. When I first saw episode 2, and saw Octavia’s relationship with her father and the fallout of what he did, I cried. I cried because it was exactly what I went through. My father cheated on my mother and it destroyed my family for a long time. But as I got older and time passed, I came to understand more of the situation. It was a bad thing that happened, yeah, but it didn’t make my father a bad person. That’s what I saw in Stolas: a man who had fallen so far out of love, trapped in a relationship that wasn’t working anymore, and trying to find someone who could be better. What he did wasn’t right, but it didn’t make him *bad*. His conversation with Octavia and him trying to be there with her cut so deep because I thought it was something more nuanced than it turned out being. Genuinely my biggest disappointment with this series is that it fully justified Stolas cheating.

oh my god, i just have to say that - i never really reply to comments on youtube videos, but for some reason your comment got me extremely emotional. i completely agree and you said it better than i ever could. i think it's so unfortunate that they took these extremely morally grey and complex characters that were beautifully written in such a way that so many different people could connect with them, just to throw all of that away and sacrifice it. sacrifice it for a wattpad esque ship. (with an honestly creepy power dynamic but that's a different argument altogether.) it's so disheartening that the writers decided to take the easy route and not challenge people's views on topics such as these, ruining the complexity of both stella AND stolas. as you said, the situation in season 1 was a lot more nuanced, but now in season 2, a completely different picture is painted and stolas is fully justified when cheating on stella, just to make things with 'stolitz' less complicated. it shows that they really only care about certain aspects of the show and not all aspects. also, regarding how you related to episode 2 and could mirror it with your own situation, i'm so sorry that happened to you. as i said, i have to admit to getting a little emotional while reading your comment and i'm hoping that you and all of your family are in a much happier place now. i hope you have a blessed day/night <3

writing a "bad mean wife" that gets cheated on is a bad writing trope that is used too make the cheater seem like a better character, its lazy writing when in reality both charcarers should of been written has hevuiliy flawed stolas was better when he seemed more selfish, it suits him, he grew up privileged too making him this poor lovesick gay man felt like a 180 he didn't have a relisation moment, it was just "wife bad" especially since gay men do cheat on there wives very often, its a unfortunate pattern that comes from homphobia but the writers obviously never thought what kind of story that could be its just "bad mean wife" and shes not even like displaying an abusive relationships she literally only does bad wife things or try to kill him like taking the all the things and screaming all the time its so flat they boiled down one character to a shitty trope just too exist to push stolas character that is by fact, not great writing

To be fair I think Stella's not actually meant to be DUMB, per se, she's just implusive and unambitious. She wants Stolas dead cause his infedelity will reflect on her reputation (granted yes the show should probably make that more clear) and doesn't care if she gets naything out of it because she's ALREADY rich, all she wants is the satisfaction of seeing Stolas die for wronging her. I do hope she actually remains as a big bad and isn't jsut her brother's lackey, I do see them more as a duo, with andrealphus as the schemer with ambitions while stella is the one who acts upon her feelings in the moment.

Honestly, I think the dumbest thing about her writing is to make her motivation for staying married to Stolas is her enjoying his suffering. As far as we know, he has never done anything to her prior to the affair to make such feelings understandable nor does she display similar gratification towards anyone else’s suffering to make it clear that she’s just a sadist. We just know that she’s quick to anger, but that’s not the same thing. Honestly, it’d make more sense that she stayed in a loveless marriage simply because she loved the lifestyle of being married to a prince and her anger issues coupled with her short-sightedness led her to fail to recognize that killing her husband would downgrade her life.

The whole situation around the change in Stella reminds me of how in shipping fandoms when there's a "canon" ship (typically male/female) but the male character is also part of a popular fanon ship (typically male/male). People who favour the fanon ship and write fanfiction about it often vilify the former (female) love interest and turn them into a bitch so it fits their narrative even if the change is entirely out of character. It's giving a - hating a character because they get in the way of their OTP - kind of feeling. Instead of getting in the way, however, Stella (and to an extent, Octavia) represents why Stolas having an affair with Blitz was not an okay thing to do, essentially marking them as homewreckers.

It’s a common fujoshi writing trope. It’s a very lazy way to sweep aside the female character that is the canon love interest in order to explain why they aren’t together in the story. I will say though, while it is the most common in yaoi shipping fan fiction I have seen it once or twice in mxf fan fiction too. Usually breaking up the previous crush or love interest so the male character will then go to the other female character they want to pair up instead. It’s fascinating to me because if they didn’t want to write the complications of the two characters breaking up for their fan pairing, they could just simply make it an au where the canon hetero ship never happened as the girl never met him or instead they just became friends. But they always choose the most character assassinating route to completely ruin the female character out of nowhere and reveal her to be just an evil bitch. I have my own speculations as to the reason why women themselves would chose to write women characters this way but I don’t wanna bog down this comment too much. So I’ll just leave it at that. Weird mentality and writing choice never really got it myself.

TL;DR I don't believe Cheating matters at all in hell. Cheating -> something that gets you into hell, Not something of an issue in hell Stella -> Not an excuse for Stolas to Cheat - She's a product of Goetia. Ars Goetia -> Hoity Toity upperclass Natural Born demons - Who are likely touted as "pure-breeds, powerful demons" Stolas -> Put on the appearance demanded of a Goetia until Via, and slowly as Via grew, He cared less and less about that Appearance. Octavia -> Not a product of Goetia. She is very much a Product more so of who Stolas is than of a Goetia. Its only the Goetia who care about Pure-breed Goetia and keeping the title of pure-bred upperclass demons. Look at the episode for Ozzie's Bouncer - no confrontation after Stolas questions it. Not a person in that bar sees a Goetia and goes "Oh shit, you're dating an imp"... at Least. Not until Ozzie himself points it out. How that episode went. They let Moxxie, an unknown imp (as far as we can tell) up on stage for a little opening number. Telling me they didn't field anything? I bet they knew he'd try and sing a love song. And Planned to poke fun at it from the very inception of him being allowed up on stage. It would've ended with them poking just a little fun at Moxxie and pushing him off stage if Nothing else had piped in "Against" Asmodeus. But Then Blitz piped in. Standing Against Asmodeus. In Ozzie's House. ONE OF THE GREAT? the embodiment of lust, and these two Imps are defying? Making a joke of ASMODEUS?!.... They won't stand for this... But the Imp on stages, knows Blitz, huh? and Then Fizz interjects - So Fizz can handle the shit talking. Then Verosika joins in. Kinda Puts Fizz's claims in question when a star chimes that she and Blitz used to date.... But she comes back with the retaliation at the end, Then Asmodeus questions who Blitz is with to get in to this couples only gig Who is that at Blitz's table, holy shit, A demon prince?!? A Goetia.... STOLAS?!? in any other circumstance. I imagine Asmodeus would've been damn proud of Blitzo's "love life" - and wouldn't have really cared if Stolas wanted to shag an imp, Ozzie is shaggin one too. But Combine that Stolas is a Goetia "A dark lord, a demon prince" who are ALL about "keeping it in the Ars Goetia rank. And that Blitzo defended Moxxie and is currently standing against "One of the great seven" Ozzie takes a crack at Stolas. After Ozzie takes the legs out from Stolas' "rank" as an upper class. That's when the other lower class are ballsy enough to call Stolas out. "ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH AN IMP??!?!?!?!" Wally Wackford, Imp. Bouncer outside Looks to be imp mixed with succubus, Didn't confront Stolas on being with an imp, Imp waitress offered service (oops, accidentally) to them, Not Confront. Not until Ozzie does it, Do they dare. But we see from Moxxie's song, and From Ozzie, That Ozzie is with an imp, and "Beelze Loves her bub" - Which while it wasn't out at the time of this video, is now, Showing that Beelze's Bub, which apparently Plenty of people know about if Moxxie knows, Is Vortex, A hellhound. Two of the greats, with two of the lowest in their Hierarchy. Nobody is going to confront them for this choice, Not even a Goetia, And nobody with a standing lower than a goetia is going to come at Stolitz willy nilly. As they make evident in that episode. and When Ozzie's commenting that Stolas "how the mighty have fallen" and that he had a smoking hot wife and kid - He's really, really not taking that big of a hit on him, again. He is with an Imp himself and someone who is as mighty as he is, is with a hellhound, definitively. - Its all about that Goetia Standard. And how the Goetia "Act" High and mighty and pure bred. Stolas is giving up the image of a Goetia, by being a Goetia with an Imp. Its something Goetia don't do. They don't mix with the lower class. They marry others of the Ars Goetia, and Make more Ars Goetia heirs, Which also means that they generally have straight, and likely very commonly, arranged, marriages. and because Blitz is standing against Asmodeus picking on Moxxie. Stolas has to take a swing. Asmodeus doesn't care about his cheating. and Doesn't REALLY care about him being with an imp. Just that "you aren't going to stand here in my house, against me." The lower class are also with this mindset sorta. "Hoity toity Goetia is sleeping with an imp?! The Goetia, who treat lower class like door mats? is sleeping "with a door mat" Ozzie is really worried about Fizz's wellbeing when MIllie collapses him into the floor. And You can see from how Fizz interacted with Asmodeus before they interrupted Moxxie's song the first time, and after Fizz gets up after Millie, That they REALLY do not dislike Moxxie and Millie's Love display. It DOESN'T truly sicken Ozzie. Or the rest of the lustful in the place, who clapped at the ending of the song. Its all about Showing up the Embodiment of Lust, and that this is Ozzie's Lustful Lounge, This place is FOR thrusts. And that image will be upheld at the end of the day "Aww it sickens me!.. GET THE FUCK OUT" And this is why he'll be called a Hypocrite in a later episode as revealed by teasers and trailers. And I imagine. He will largely be unbothered by this declaration, and Likely, Will even come to defend Stolitz, either indirectly when being unbothered by the "hypocrisy" and crushing the dissention. Or Directly. Maybe even saying He's all for Stolitz. Cause again. Its all contextual. Asmodeus doesn't care if high-class demons get with imps. He's one of the highest, and cares a lot for Fizz Cheating isn't an issue, But, Moxxie, Millie, Blitz and by connection as Blitz's Date, Stolas, are challenging The embodiment of Lust, in Ozzie's lustful Lounge. The lower class are only concerned with the fact that a Goetia is breaking Standard - and only chiming in cause Ozzie did. The Goetia are.... Goetia. Cheating not an issue, But Stella won't get her luxuries if a different family gets to be with Stolas instead, And it wasn't even another Goetia, is was an imp. Yes. Stella's status is "good" cause it wasn't instead Say, Ozzie who Stolas hooked up with, But its still a blow to her that Stolas is DISCARDING her for a lower class. Stolas' behavior before this may have been the butt of jokes, but Stolas period after is the butt of jokes within the Goetia. Despite that Stolas has the Grimoire and princely duties. People like Asmodeus are really only just going to be surprised that a Goetia would break tradition, Unless, In the circumstance shown, They're challenging Unprovoked Asmodeus - Likely all for Stolas and Blitz. - Just put any other Goetia and Any other Lower-class Race in place and Ozzie Likely For it. Its just that Blitz is Provoking. And By dating association. Stolas is catching. Provoked Asmodeus - Well, Now you're going to catch these hands. Look at you, Oh so High and Mighty Goetia, Sleeping with an Imp?? Your Life as a Goetia will never be the same.

How on earth do people think anyone failed Stella she was meant to evil for the sake of evil that is the perfect villain if that's a fail then there's no such thing as good writing. she a privileged unapologetic princess from hell and is perfectly written as such. This video is such a face palm I can't even process it. We need more villains that are villains for the sake of evil heck media is overly saturated with redeemable or justified villains that when we get a true villain its refreshing. One of my favorite quotes summarizes my viewpoint here, "before all the motivation and spandex there was the simple villain one of his favorite things was to tie his victims to rail road tracks" red death from venture bros put it sweetly but evil used to be evil you didn't need to sympathetic or have a justified motive because your actions where what spoke for you. Stella perfectly fits that she doesn't need to be smart or sympathetic she's a bad b-i-t-c-h born from money and loves doing whatever she wants because at the end of the day it's what makes her happy. If she wants to step on an imp for looking at her too long shell make an imp puddle with glee and thats absolutely perfect.

Then I ask you this. Why is she put into this position of expected sympathy? Stella, and Stolas were forced into a loveless marriage. Forced to produce an heir within their teenage years. Both of them come from families that neglected them, and treated them like tools to be pawned off for their own gain. Stella's character is not built for the hate sink, or pure evil role. Because a hate sink villain has no sympathetic or redeeming qualities. They have only their qualities of corruption that have ruined them as people. Pure evil is one who develops it naturally as they live... not from childhood. That blame is upon the caregivers, not the one's receiving the care. It is harder to make a pure evil villain work in this setting and plot because of the way that it has been laid out. How am I, as an audience member, going to say that Stella is a pure evil villain with all the facts assed. Stolas' story garners sympathy from tragedy... why doesn't Stella's? In regards to circumstance, they are remarkably similar. Also... if Stella doesn't need to be powerful or strong in anyway to be a good villain... what power does she hold over Stolas? She's lesser in every way, and her beating and wounding Stolas via striker, makes him look like an idiot. Her actions, unmasked for soo many years, as its implied... never a good moment, never a HUMAN aspect to her, and you were ok with raising your daughter around that?!?! You stayed with this horrible person for 17 years because you wanted Octavia to have a normal life? Stolas what the heck? You have the power, the recourses, the tools to leave! You said it yourself!!! The Goetia family only wanted a heir! Not for you to stay together!! You have shown very little response to Stella's abuse and you're bounds stronger than her!!! This society doesn't care what the heck you do to her as long as you don't kill her. Why didn't you just leave and give her the bird? Was it possibly the fact that Stella might've been a more cooperative individual in the past, someone that you worked with to keep your little family going? Doesn't that make more sense? To fuel your denial till the very end. Because there is a fine line between a victim, and an idiot. If Stella has always been like this, as it's implied, Stolas is a slave to his own mind rather than Stella's own... she's just an opportunist.
