It's been over 30 years since my Air Force BMT. Keep focused, pay attention, study when you are able, and try to have fun. Also, try not to have a last name that starts at the beginning of the alphabet because you always going first....that sucked for me lol. It will be over before you know it. I can't say I had a blast but I did come out of there with some great memories.

I feel like I can relate so much with you! I was always scared of the yelling, gas chamber, combat, and the PB shot lol. But now being a bit older, I'm like "OK lets just get this show on the road and fulfill my dreams of being in the AF!" I'm honestly so glad I waited 10 years. I've gone through life, struggles, matured, etc. I have a completely different mindset now. I'm a spouse so I know how the military is. I think that also helps. I'm ready to find a few REAL friends.

Girl, I didn't get to my medical interview until 4:30PM! I was waiting since like 10:30AM. Oh I had the WORST pounding headache ever. I passed everything but they made me get a couple waivers. 1) Asthma when I was 7 & (which was a misdiagnosis) - so that was annoying. 2) Pregnancy anemia. Currently just waiting on them to get approved. Fingers crossed. I've been wanting to do this for 10 years just was never the right time for me. I also had to pee SO bad but couldn't go because for one there were no doors and then the lady standing there lmao. I went to MEPS the beginning of this month.

Air Force guy, ill give you a few tips. But I can only speak from a males perspective. I did have a sister flight and we spoke some after bmt was over. Females may get to shave twice during the 8 weeks. (Maybe when/if you wear your blues skirt and graduation ceremony) So shaving for females is not a priority nor will you have the time. I highly doubt you will be able to stick anything on your wall locker (mirror) and they may tell you to store it in your personal bag that will be locked away for the 8 weeks. Now for showering from a males perspective. First shower will only be about 30-60 seconds, they made us put out soap in our hand and hold it until we were under the water. Males will be crammed in, think of showering and the next guy is about 6 inches away waiting for you to finish while being screamed at by the MTI. Conditioner will be a waste to take in my opinion, but females may have more time not sure. Having lots of small items that you are taking will only cause you more stress when they tell you to dump all your stuff out (less is better) and it will make you faster while being screamed at. Do you want to put away 100 items of 20 items? The black hair band should be fine for your hair color but if you find brown that may work better. Take bobby pins as well for all the little pieces you may miss. I would highly recommend doing your hair at night and adjust it in the morning. You wont have time in the morning. The white and gold watch is not going to fly, I recommend getting an all black one. For make-up, you may be able to put some on for graduation (bmt) is not a fashion show. As for now, practice doing your hair in a bun, practice hospital corners and exercising. Hope this helps.

thank you. I’m just bringing stuff my recruiter has recommended and if i can’t use it or have to throw something away then so be it. As far as showering/getting ready, i’ve heard you have a total of 10-15 minutes for the flight but really just depends on if flight is on good behavior and timing with everything else.

good luck girl! The mirror is definitely smart, I didn’t think about that before I went to BMT 😅 the bathroom can definitely get crowded in the mornings. It’ll suck the most during week 0-2 but you start to get used to it and it flies by so enjoy it as much as you can.

thank you far sharing, brought me back! i enlisted in 2012. at MEPS there was a German doctor who inspected our bodies. me & my cousin, a Marine, joked about him for years. "Spread your cheeks!" we'd say in a funny German accent. i ended up not making it through basic training. in short, my dust cover was ripped and unserviceable. i kept failing inspection. i kept requisitioning a new dust cover, and it kept getting denied because they ranked it as "serviceable." i was in a dehydrated state and fearful of getting recycled back to week 1, so i attempted to kill myself. sad story, but i learned a lot while i was there and i think the air force is a nice choice. i really liked the french toast. my advice is not to buy everything your recruiter told you to. deoderant, digital watch, all that on the piece of paper they gave you? guess what, i bought and brought all that on my flight from Philly to San Antonio. our MTI forced us to throw away everything we brought. was easily a waste of $200. while i was in basic training, there was some misconduct on base. google "2012 commander palmer lackland" to read more. as a woman, please keep your head on a swivel and let NO mistreatment slip, not even a comment. you are stronger than any evil. evil hides in lies, deception, misdirection, and dishonesty. you can overcome it by dragging it out in front of everyone.
