Just drove from Orange County, CA to Portland, OR one way in late September this year (2023) for the first time again after twenty long years, and some things never change, including this route. The drive between Redding and Yreka continues to be one of the most beautiful I've ever seen - I've road tripped through 33 states...and once you drive through Ashland in southern Oregon on up to Roseburg or so, ugh just simply gorgeous, enough to bring tears to your eyes its so naturally beautiful. Thank you for this, I love it on half speed so I can soak it up even more.

I can understand cities not wanting to have freeways inside them. But to have such a slow road downtown the.cars parked along the sides is ridiculous as a major highway. As a compromise they could have one way roads with no cars parked along the sides along with a 70 km/h (43 mph) speed.limit.

No drive anywhere in the world could possibly be more beautiful AND fun than Snoqualmie Pass with a Volkswagen (or Audi). It has enough hills to be fun but not too strenuous (eg the Grapevine near Los Angeles). Also to be surrounded by giant evergreens and beautiful lakes is awesome. Of course it would be even more fun if there was an Autobahn like that where I could let it all hang out.

The roads, highways and infrastructures in the United State is so much more developed than in Canada. Vancouver has the audacity to call a busy city street with stop lights a "Highway". Its Highway 99 that actually becomes a highway further down south. Thats like doing a half ass job building half a way and claiming credit for calling a street "Highway".
@fanjin Жыл бұрын
I was surprised to find that I had to drive on local roads in order to switch from highway 99 to highway 1. I didn’t study the maps the night before, so I took it for granted that I should be able to get to North Vancouver via highways 99, 91 and 1 without taking an exit. 😂
@marryson123 Жыл бұрын
@@fanjin They also call Highway 1 the "Trans-Canada" highway. Again its not a freeway or even highway that goes from West to East. Highway 1 consist of Freeway, 2 lane highways and for the most part, small city streets with stop lights, intersections and pedestrian cross walk. I know we Americans just take our interstate system for granted, but I'm glad we are not like Canada.
@guitarheromorello Жыл бұрын
You know that 3 dragons meme with the two serious ones and the dumb one? Mexico Federal Highway 1 and Interstate 5 are the serious ones, while British Columbia 99 is the dumb one. Mexico's highway goes throughout all of Baja California to the end of Baja California Sur. America's highway goes through all 3 west coast states. Yet, Canada's highway can't go through one province.

What did they want from you in secondary? I never had the "luck" to be called in secondary, so what are they doing there?
@fanjin Жыл бұрын
I was using “automatic visa revalidation” provision to request reentry to the US. This requires additional paperwork, fingerprint, photos and $6 fees to pay, which cannot be done at the lane.
@CaribouEno Жыл бұрын
@@fanjin I think that was NOT automatic revalidation. Automatic revalidation means your old I-94 is turned active again and your short trip to Canada is not considered having left the US. I went with a friend on a work visa to Canada for a weekend and that is what we expected returning - passports, visa, the CBP officer scanned and we were good to go. His I-94 did not change - he checked on the I-94 site. In fact the departure transmitted by the Canadian CBSA to CBP was removed. The fact you paid $6 for a new I-94 tells me you got a complete new entry on your visa status, not an automatic revalidation...
@fanjin Жыл бұрын
@@CaribouEno You are absolutely right. My previous I-94 (paper) was issued by USCIS as a result of change of status inside US. This time they charged me $6 to update the record into the CBP database. The departure transmitted by CBSA was not removed from my travel history. I got a new admission stamp on my passport which correctly reflects my current status. I guess a new electronic I-94 has been created too, and that's why I paid $6. The whole process took 15 minutes in the secondary inspection facility, officers being friendly and professional.
@CaribouEno Жыл бұрын
@@fanjin Yes the I-94 (and I-94W) costs $6. But it is included in the flight ticket price when you fly in in the US so there is no fee to pay. In your case you got a new I-94 by USCIS (changement of status, extension of your stay) and CBP cannot do this with those. So they had to report your new entry. But that was not secondary inspection. That was part of a normal non immigrant visa entry. Now it is on CBP with the CBP interview you had. The next time you spend a weekend in Canada they'll let you in without this unless your visa and work petition is still valid.
