Speed works a little differently in this game. Your character's speed increases when you collect coins (it maxes out at 10). And you can pretty far ahead if you can keep your speed up without going offroad too much. This game also has a rival system. All the AI racers are programmed to drive at a certain speed, and they change depending on what character you pick. this why you see DK Jr., Koopa Troopa, and Toad way in the back. Also, the runner is abusing an exploit with the mini turbos, when you let off the gas around the time the boost starts, it last a little bit longer and you can drive over off road terrain with little to no slow down.

@@QuadFactor21 Hmmm I I played the fk outta this game when it was new, for years, and I aint never seen some of the sht thats going on here. I will grant you, 20 years of drinking may have skewed my memory, and the last thing you are speaking on, the other sht i know...but the boost exploiting mini turbo boosts, that may be the factor that is contributing to what I am seeing here. ill have to look into the specifics of it, but that probably is what is causing the main difference from what i'm remember, that and pickling my brain in vodka. IDK, the speed this fker is getting and how far ahead he is getting, I don't remember that sht being the case at all. Ive been wrong before, probably wrong here. I swear i dont recall being able to just speed away like this fker is doin though, if hes just exploiting the game though, Im wrong and he is tearing it up.

The new drivers will have their own stats. Wario's speed for instance will be halfway between Mario's and Bowser's speed.

Odds of getting a blue shell will be very low, plus you can select in settings to use only the « legacy » items (from the og game) or to use custom sets of items probabilities where you can just prevent blue shell from being available.

@@ScouBsmk It's one of the reasons why I preferred to play modern Mario Kart on the Wii version. Last time I checked on 8 the custom items weren't available.
