Jim was a great fan of 50s rocker Gene Vincent. Jim called him,"a REAL, rock star.".Gene was known for his leather pants & jacket. He was called,"the black leather rebel". Jim later became friends with Gene, & I'm sure as a young rocker, he was influenced by him.

Definitely raw power. So sad that the new version of the record dulled the compression and loudness and you can’t find the “original” 97 mix anymore

I think they both suck. Zappa was an amazing guitarist but the music? Ugh. Lou Reed had one song that was ok; especially when covered by others. Both are over hyped.

If they were two cliques in an American high school, the Mothers would the picked on glee club dorks and jazz band nerds and drama f-gs whilst the Velvets would be the edgy stoner truants smoking on the bridge outside before homeroom.

The Kinks had a better garage rock sound on their guitars than the Beatles. It was more powerful and raw.

Zappa sure did not like drugs. Guess who’s is rather jam to tho? I’m not saying the drugs help but they sure don’t make heroin like that did twenty years ago… it was banger. Then 9/11. wtf did we go to Afghanistan for? Anyway. Lou lived longer so don’t knock it.

Definitely a stripped back version of the Velvets that takes out John Cale and his avant garde soundscapes for Doug Yule and more acoustic guitar Self titled is a stepping stone to Loaded with the more commercial tracks while still being the Velvets mostly because of some experimentation and some dark lyrics from Reed plus What Goes On feels like a Cale track
@nvm90406 күн бұрын
Cale and Reed definitely had a dynamic that complemented each other’s style of music well until it clashed in the next record White Light White Heat But on VU and Nico Reed’s lyrics and vision was brought out by Cale’s avant garde soundscapes that were brought to life by a drone from a voila

I think this harsh critique was a result of the album being relatively new and the ongoing competition between the British Invasion bands of the time. But there was jealousy for sure. Pete Townshend said the only good song on Revolver is Taxman, and the rest is rubbish. It’s obvious he (and Ray Davies) knew Revolver is an extraordinary album.

I love them both. Zappa was a musical genius 1967-1976..including Läther album. Lou Reed was a musical genius 1965-1970 Velvet Years..then sporadic with superb songs on different albums..solo years. Zappa made Extremely Beautiful Instrumental Music those years...Zappa was a 100% Nicotin-Cigarette/Coffein-Coffee Man. Reed was a Poet
