Congratulations Chris !!! Very creative ways do scape of restrictions of not overheat the neodymium and stills keeping it strongly tie under water to perform the drill. Cheers !!!

Very good, just how I used to do it on my old Colchester. I found a clip that takes the worry out of running into the chuck etc. You can lift the lever out, if you want it let me know, thanks. Patrick

Hey good stuff! I have a random question/ request. I heard about you through Tool Addict. I just bought a Wilton 820 Baby Bullet Vise! And it's missing the end cap. And I saw what beautiful work you did making the brass caps for his. Are you interested in making another cap for mine? That would be epic. Thanks for the consideration! Obviously I would pay you ;)

It’s a fairly significant design flaw, when the most difficult to access section of tubing is the only section that’s rigid, flattened and bent at a 120 degree angle, for this NOT to end up blocked would be a miracle!…..I’m proposing a friendly competition, ‘What was the weird stuff blocking your Dyson?’ Me? A tonne of dust and hair, a rubber band, a tiny screw and a whole Chinese sausage!

If you set the cross slide to zero at the end of the cut wind out the cross slide, carriage back cut on with top slide wind in cross slide to 0 and engage nut at the appropriate #.

We have been machining Copper 110 alloy for 15 years on a manual lathe. We have found that a positive rake of 25 to 30° works best, and a slight radius at the tip of the Tool bit. Also, taking a small hone stone and Dulling the very tip of the high-speed steel radius greatly improved surface finish to a near polish. But the major problem is the continuous stringy chip. If you continuously break the chip…interrupted cuts…, it affects surface finish negatively. The long stringy chips are extremely dangerous and using a collet chuck has greatly helped in safety and keeping the chips from wrapping around anything. We have experimented over the years with chip breakers, trying to get the chip to curl on all cuts with some success, heavy and light cuts. this is the only area we have yet to achieve total success, that is the chip control. It is insanely sharp and dangerous. when cleaning up the swarf, I have been cut through leather gloves, as if I was barehanded, nasty stuff

I learnt the hard one that you can't bend brass without heat. I thought it was supposed to be just a bit harder than copper. I guess i was wrong. Hope the chair holds, but I'm not optimistic. Might have to redo it. Copper for next one.

What you are doing is very dangerous. Your drill is not sharpened correctly and the rpm is to high. You have to much clearance on the cutting face. The drill can grab and pull out of the taper. At break through is the most risk. All tool clearances change when machining brass.

From the sounds of `er wha`, i deduce a broken gear tooth in the lower gears... Sounds like a single broken tooth that when encountered at speed, via the momentum of the things just skips the position wholly, smacking into the next tooth with what little run up the system managed to achieve in that short interval... I could be wrong, but that`s what it sounds like to me... Just found your channel, so i dont know if you diagnosed/changed the offending part as of yet, but we shall see... I myself have quite some shit to deal with in my shop... More like 9 machines in need of general restoration and 1 in need of complete service and 2 baby machines that are in tip top shape... Well, i lie, the baby lathe has a tailstock issue to resolve, but that is a single precise bore worth of work to solve that... I`m just too lazy atm to deal with that little bugger... So one could say that i have some experience with machines not sounding as they should All the best!

Hi ! Thank you 😊, there’s definitely something going on in there… I’ve never been brave enough to look inside… I bought it untested… young and foolish, I don’t use it much as I should

@@chris-the-bodge-sculptor Oh, dont worry, i too have done my fair share of picking up machinery that is either untested or in need of severe reconditioning and general restoration... On one hand, it offers you the ability to snag ridiculous machinery for pennies, on the other hand, it offers you the ability to conjure a task as laborious as pregnancy yet one that can last much longer... If she is free of cracks in the main casting, she can be restored to perfection... That is my motto... Machines just need a lot of love and double the amount of elbow grease... All the best and kind regards!

Ferrites come in many grades but invariably they are brittle! I might suggest that another time, do not clamp the ring in a vice but place it on a wooden board and fix it down with another piece of wood using minimal force.
