That was a really sad game to watch. The performance of 55 and 81 reminded me of the Maurice era and the coaching decisions were very Bowness like. This team is so not a Stanley Cup contender as constructed now. It’s the GM who provides the tools the Coach has to work with and this GM is just a sit on his hands until they go numb kind of guy. The stagnation from above is what’s choking this team.

This decision by the Jets to put out players to experiment in actual games is just stupid, and it's beyond tired at this point. There is no way in hell any contending team is icing a third pairing consisting of a guy who's barely played in two years and a guy who is not a regular and coming back from his own injury. That is just asking for failure. If this were the Stars or the Avs, they would have Heinola on the third pair with the likes of Colin Miller or Dylan Coghlan. This is bush league stuff for an NHL team. The Jets are facing some of the best players in the world, and they want to experiment with two guys who have never played together before? And this is on top of still making the first and third lines untouchable. And the grand idea, when Scheifele is hurt, is to put Namestnikov on the first line.

You definitely get a sense that no coach ever really runs the show in Winnipeg. Either the players are dictating lines, or management is. When you constantly see 81 and 55 on the same line regardless of how poor they are together, and regardless of the coach, and also see 64 on the blueline regardless of how much he is a pilon or how many penalties he takes? Something definitely doesn't make sence. You would expect at least one coach to have different ideas and try something different. Since that is not happening, it appears there are outside forces ordering things be the same. Remember Maurice wasn't fired despite a poor record, he left. Bones also wasn't fired, he left. I suspect if Arniel tows the company line he will never get fired either. Sometimes it seems even Chevy doesn't have his own say. Only way this will ever get fixed is if Winnipeg gets a president of hockey opeations. Something I don't believe Chipman wants as I think he is the one that likes running the show. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, you have to wonder what is the goal of this organization If the goal is to contend, then they need to be willing to do everything necessary to give this team the best shot at at contending. And that means making hard, but necessary choices, and not being scared to hurt feelings. Constantly going with the status quo and pushing the same old "we're going all in" message is disingenuous. They're not all in when they continue to not deviate from the same losing strategies. They're not all in when they keep protecting Logan Stanley. They're not all in when they continue to not add some size to the blue line or to the top 6. There's too much of a reliance on loyalty and friendship. This is the NHL, not the WHL or QMJHL. It's about winning. And that means guys shouldn't be kept just because they were drafted. If they're not getting the job done, move on from them so the team can move forward. To me, Chipman and Cheveldayoff's goal isn't to actually contend. It's just to be comfortable with making the playoffs and getting the revenue from the home playoff games. That's good enough. And until this front office situation changes, this is going to continue to be the issue every year. The Jets are a good team that is an easy out come playoff time. The Jets need a GM that's not afraid to be ruthless in the pursuit of winning. The best way to attract free agents is to foster a culture of winning to show potential UFAs that this team isn't that far away and they could be the difference.
@marksydor310815 күн бұрын
@@pomerlain8924 I'll make it simple. There are two types of hockey team owners. There are owners that are true fans and care more about winning, and then there are owners that care more about making money. A true hockey fan would rather have their team win at least one cup, and never make the playoffs again, rather than make the playoffs every year and never win a cup. An owner in it for they money, would rather their team make the playoffs every year if it means never winning a cup. We can clearly see what type of owner the True North is. To win a cup or multiple cups a team always has to go through lean years, either by tanking a few years now to build up some good draft picks for a future winning team, or buy trading away the future to get good players to win now, and then have lean years later. Jets ownership clearly never wants to ever go through the lean years to win a cup. They would rather have the Jets just squeak into the playoffs every year to try and fill seats. It's that simple. So unless the Jets get lucky one year and find special magic with a mediocre team, don't hold your breath on them winning a cup.

You have a front office, in Chevy and Chipman, that are unwilling to make the hard, but necessary moves to push this team forward. The teams that win, and are constantly in the mix to contend are the ones that have GMs or Presidents that are willing to be ruthless in the pursuit of winning. There are no sacred cows to them. But when it comes to to Chevy and Chipman, the players that were drafted are all sacred cows. And that might be good in junior or the WHL. But that's a problem in the NHL. Chevy relies too much on loyalty and friendships. And people say he wins trades, but he only makes trades to fill holes, instead of changing the culture. Most of the moves made are at the fringes. And what has the team won, as a result of the trades? Chevy didnt even try to replace Monahan, which meant Namestnikov was again going to start this season as the 2C. Chevy also didnt try to replace Dillon with a physical d-man. And now, we're a quarter into the season, and what do the Jets need. A 2C and physical d-man. For the most part, the same core group of guys are still on this team from the last two seasons when they had their slide and bowed out meekly in the first round. And no changes have been made. Is the goal to actually contend or to just stroke egos and be comfortable simply making the playoffs?

The Canucks all of last month played only two games during which they had scored under three goals in each, losing to the Isles 5-2 at home but beating the Bruins 2-0 at TD Garden. Tuesday evening CT featured a Canucks 3-2 OT loss to the MN Wild, and at least the Canucks can say that they only allowed two goals in regulation in that game. Whether the Canucks will, for the first time since their November California road trip, play consecutive games during which they give up no more than two goals remains very much TBD but what isn’t is that the Jets have the widest lead, among Canadian teams in top-three divisional spots (them, Leafs and Canucks), at eight points over the Avs. The Jets still can’t take for granted that they have such a commanding lead because as much as the Avs this season have struggled, I’m not about to write off their season, playoff-qualification-wise, just yet. The Bruins, NY Rangers, Bolts, Isles, Canucks and Oilers, among teams that last season saw playoff action, have also struggled, but I’m not about to write any of those teams’ chances of seeing playoff action this season off just yet. Of teams that last season didn’t see playoff action, the: - Pens, CBJ, Sabres, Wings, Blues, Kraken, Sharks and (as the Arizona Coyotes) the Utah Hockey Club are out of playoff spots, but under five points out - Sens, Habs, Ducks and Preds are otherwise under 10 points out, with, based on their record so far this regular season, the Ducks I see the likeliest to see playoff action

As for Arneil, if he is making similar decisions to other coaches, perhaps Jet's coaches are just puppets for management or ownership who are adamant of things veing done a certain way? Bad coaching decisions are at least 50% if not 75% of jets problems. Change the top line, rest injured players, and bench stanley. It is not hard.

Exactly. The Wild and Caps haven't crumbled when their star players have been injured. Look at the Leafs currently. No Matthews for almost a month, and having to ice half of an AHL team for games, and yet they still find a way to get the wins. Injuries suck, but they are a part of the game, and good teams have to deal with it and find other ways to win.

My general feeling is that these teams (kind of like the Jets) will have a rough playoff run. During the regular season the vulnerabilities aren't as obvious, but I think series in the post-season will be a lot more illuminating. The flipside is this is true of like 90% of the playoff field right now, so might as well flip a coin! Really want the Jets to be aggressive to improve the roster this year, this feels like a season to cash in some chips.
@marksydor310821 күн бұрын
@@LockedOnJetsNHL Don't hold your breath on any chips beimg cashed. I have said it before and will again, true north does not really care about a cup, they only care about making money. They know to make money the Jets have to keep the arena as full as they can year after year. This means at least squeaking into the playoffs every year. If the jets trade away any future pieces, they will suck even more in a few years, thus risk bit scraping into the playoffs. The Jets need generational talent. Only way that happens is if they tank and get good draft pics. Money hungry true north will not allow this.

And that shows that the so-called depth this team has is just a facade. Injuries suck, but they do happen. Good teams, that have good depth, find a way to manage while guys are injured. The Leafs were icing half an AHL roster in their forward group the last month, and they still found ways to get wins. The Jets continually struggle to do that. Scheifle is nowhere near 100%, but the team has nobody good enough to take over at 1C to shelter him until he gets healthy. Namestnikov isn't an alternative. Lowry isn't an alternative. This team just falls apart when the top line isn't producing consistently.

My take on the top 2 lines: A lot of skill, but hardly any physicality. And in this league, especially, come playoff time, you need top line player that plays with an edge, while also having the skill to score. To me, the Jets' lines seem unbalanced. All the guys that could play physical are on the third and fourth lines. I'd move Nino up to the second line, move Vlad down to the third line, make Vilardi the 1C, move Ehlers up to the first line, if he's not injured long-term, and make Scheifele the 2C. If Ehlers injury is long-term, I'd say call up Lambert. Right now, the the top 2 lines are stagnant, at 5-on-5, and the top line needs to play like the top line and drive play. And this is why I do think the Jets should have given McGroarty a real chance at making the team. He has skill, and physicality, which would pay dividends as a 2C right now.

This has me worried. We keep playing too structured and too dominant. Teams are going to be able to watch our video and figure our game out. We need to employ some deception.
