I met Ray Neilson standing at the tracks at the recently-completed Spadina Streetcar line, nice man. He wasn't sure I was a streetcar geek at first, but then I rang off all kinds of facts and he gave me a vintage streetcar transfer. RIP Ray.

0:49:- correction, air-electrics were the only cars used on Dundas from WW2 to 1966 when they were retired en masse with the opening of the Crosstown subway. Ditto for Queen and King; Ditto for Harbord from the opening of the Yonge subway until 1966, likewise for Carlton. All the air-electrics operated out of only Roncesvalles and Russell and Lansdowne car-houses and all the streetcars at Roncesvalles were exclusively air-electrics from ca 1954 to 1966.

at 2:25+ there is a streetcar exiting Cedarvale Ave onto eastbound Danforth:- it looks like a "Y" but actually they were testing the new temporary streetcar loop at Woodbine Station which was closed after May 11/68 when the extensions opened:- more tram trivia for all you addled Toronto streetcar fanatics! The guy with the switch-point lever is there to reset the trolley pole if it slips off the very new overhead installation which was subsequently dismantled by summer of 1968. Btw, when the new "Crosstown" opened on Feb 26/66 the TTC did something so shockingly amazing:- at Keele Stn they were giving away a subway token to each person who came to test-ride the new line on a Saturday morning:- it was a truly big event in Toronto that day, almost as popular as a hockey game (at a time when the Maple Leafs still managed to win the Stanley Cup). 🙂

Congratulations on 70 years! I only wish that efforts out here in BC were as successful. The biggest single factor is the volunteers themselves. Treat them right and they stay and will be committed and involved. Build a community where all kinds of people are welcome, and what you get is a lasting legacy.

I toured the museum in 1997 and came home with a handful of books, lots of photos, and great memories. One such memory was the ride in one of your big interurbans. I was chatting with the operator as we were heading east through the wooded area and I asked him how fast the thing could go. He said it had the capacity to literally "jump the tracks", however he kinda looked around, and then said "Tell you what...let's see what we can do..." and WOW!... if that interurban had wings it would have flown. It's a ride I won't forget. I definitely plan to make it back there again someday.

I think the first line of the description should read "It's been 70 . . . on June 25th, 1954".

CONGRATULATIONS. We visited 2 weeks ago, for the first time in several years. We didn't realise you had your aniversay this weekend or we would have made an effort to attend. Well done on all your achievements.

Thank heavens Canada followed the US's orders and eradicated public transit...except, of course, for buses stuck in traffic. All hail Big Oil!

it’s ironic that a museum that has decades worth of timeless transit vehicles isn’t accessible by transit. But still cool collection, just gotta figure how i’ll get there

The 1st Generation of the UTDC ICTS Mk1 Skytrains in Vancouver are already 40 years old & are gonna start retiring. I feel like some Mk1s should be preserved & sent to HCRR not only due to their history of the revolutionary ICTS technology but also due to the fact that the Mk1s were also built in Ontario. Hopefully HCRR could spare some space for at least a 2-car Mk1 trainset. I'm sure railfans would love to see some preserved Mk1s especially those from Toronto since TTC's Line 3 is gone.

This was my second visit here last September and from southern interior of BC. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here, my grandfather worked for the TTC for 30 years and I remember he got his gold card to ride for free, as a youngster I would ride on line 1 and 2 and always ride up front with him, many happy memories

Neat seeing Dufferin and King before drug culture took over. Every bar on that block is crawling with addicts and dealers today. Friendly people but all working through issues. My family lived in Parkdale from the 1800s until the 1950s. Lots of stories and the stories continue.

I recall seeing the 4000 at the Ex in ‘88. It was the first time I saw one of the first generation versions. I grew up in the 70s riding the subsequent PCCs until they were subbed out by the CLRVs.
