@FastsignsKirkland2 күн бұрын
Oddly enough, I generally don't know the cost of installs. One: because I just don't see those details, or Two: I don't want to know how much something cost if I mess it up. :) I would reckon this update cost approximately $2000ish. Again I don't know for certain.

@FastsignsKirkland When Installing a cabinet sign on a exterior wall with siding do you have any tips on trying to findd studs?
@FastsignsKirkland2 күн бұрын
With wood siding, the best thing I could recommend is a good, not cheap, stud-finder. I have had limited success with them in the past, but they for the most part get you to within a few inches of a stud. The other, more invasive and less professional way is to "exploratory drill" by using the studfinder to get you close, and then just drilling every 1.5-2" until you hit a stud. Like I said, not the best way, but it is effective, especially if the sign will cover those holes. Also make sure to seal them up!

Like most LED assemblies with multiple color temperature settings, you may have noticed that the 4000°K and 6500°K settings only light every other LED. 5000°K is achieved by lighting all LEDs. It makes me wonder if the 5000°K setting is more, or less reliable than the other settings. Thanks again for another informative video.
@FastsignsKirkland11 күн бұрын
I noticed that as well! I also had that thought about the 5000k setting, and I am not sure if it would be more or less reliable, since regardless of which setting you choose, those LEDs would be on for their lifespan. That said, you could probably run 6500K to its lifespan, and then just switch to 4000k and have essentially a brand new fixture, just at a different temperature. Great question! Thanks for watching!

in sign applications how does the reliability of LEDs compare with fluorescent? My specialty is repairing fluorescent light fixtures. It is very satisfying to replace magnetic ballasts and T12 Lamps with electronic ballast and T8 Lamps including new lamp-holders. I always tell my customers the old fluorescent fixtures are high quality and cost effective to repair. Most if not all store bought LED fixtures are non repairable. Yesterday I was called to "repair" three failed LED fixtures, all less that four years old. For a 4 foot fixture I'm going back with fluorescent. I've gained very high regard for T8 and T5 fluorescent technology. Thanks
@FastsignsKirkland18 күн бұрын
It sounds like you know a lot more about this that I do, but what I can say is that In regards to signs, I have found that LEDs, when installed correctly do have a longer life span than fluorescents. That said, there are sooooo many more nuances to LEDs than fluorescents. In this particular instance, I was involved with the initial conversion of this sign approximately 7 years prior to this video (and with a different company), which is right about the expected lifespan of the LEDs and power supplies. But the best case for this sign was to replace everything with newer, more efficient LEDs and power supplies. Perhaps the market is still adapting to converting fluorescent to LEDs. I have had great success with Keystone Signhero products, as they are a 1 to 1 replacement system for fluoro to LED, and they are sooo easy to do, just replace the old lamps with the new LEDs with minimal wiring. I can't give you any solid answers, but just know that there are new and innovative solutions our problems coming out all the time. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

No wire nut put on the wires before pushing back into the wall?
@FastsignsKirkland23 күн бұрын
Always. It's hard to tell but I wire nutted the black and white together (which I really do not like to do) since there just wasn't enough room to fit two wire nuts in the hole that looks like it was chewed out by a really small beaver, and if anyone did turn the breaker on it would just trip instantly. And the green wire you don't need to worry about.

I'd love to know how many of these LED's go bad after any amount of time. I see this in about 50% of the LED bulbs we buy for our house. LED's last forever, LED's are so much better. Yet here I am replacing 1 year old bulbs from GE, Phillips, even the big box store options because the driver failed or the LED blinks randomly or strobes. Or you get one bulb that goes out in a room with several in the ceiling so you buy a replacement in the same color range and it never matches, so you replace all six and now have five random bulbs that don't match anything. I'm not saying LED wasn't the way to go but the lie of them lasting much longer than incandescents, I'm not sure was entirely truthful.
@FastsignsKirkland25 күн бұрын
I couldn't agree more. LED's definitely have changed the way we illuminate our lives. But man, there needs to be a lot more industry standardization for the exact reasons you stated. This is exactly what I run into when I get a call to service an LED sign. Sure, for the most part the power supplies are interchangeable, but you HAVE to have the right brand/temperature/wattage of LEDs or they just won't match. Generally, (and it depends on the manufacturer) LED's last anywhere from as few as 10,000 hours to over 50-60,000 hours. But, like you, I have replaced LED's in signs that were only a year or two old. Lot's of factors, especially in signs, lead to them failing prematurely such as moisture in the air (even though they are sealed) shorts, overloading, etc. Thanks for watching!
