Outstanding videography! Most model railroad videos do great w/the modeling but forget the video part. They fail to consider that while most any phone will provide high quality video they forget that every even tiny bobble is magnified by the scale (a 1" move is, in HO, 87" - over 7 feet!). Your superior depth of field, many lock-down shots & fabulous tracking (VERY smooth!) coupled with "eye level" & the addition of real train SFX all add to the beauty of the modelling rather than detracting from it. Congratulations! Really nice work...

I came here after seeing "the world's largest model RR layout". This one is much more aesthetically pleasing. And now I see why. Howard is a true artist, so he understands how to place and color the background to make it look real. You must have a good HD camera mounted on these trains. Following along, watching the scenery, was like going back in time. I love it!

Actually, these are real sounds on recorded chips and made to be in sync with driver rotation of steamers. Other sounds are recorded from real sounds. I have a major shitload of older locos with coffee grinder gear noise, I'd be most happy to bestow on you for a minimal price. As far as being out of step...not to worry. The hobby is about modeling in all tastes.
@amraceway
@amraceway 4 жыл бұрын
@@howardzane5453 For me the sounds are way too loud and only emanate from the engine, there are for instance no clanking sounds of couplers. For noisy gears try a couple of drops of auto diff lube additive. it will quieten down brass gears in a jiffy.Your layout and modelling work is by the way exceptional.

Ya know! You guys always film the Train operation and all that, (which is cool) but what I call my family in to see is all the details in the background. Right off the bat I called everyone in to see the all the work that was done in the background of the introduction. "Look at ALLLL the stuff they had to make and place in their spots!!" …. "Look at all the TREES!!" On all these different KZbin videos by the many different folks that mainly show train operation. But its all the work these guys do that is absolutely amazing …. the scenes and the detail work, WOW! I think that most times this fact gets missed. The family will sit down and just be amazed … usually looking at everything besides just the trains. What a beautiful layout, and amazing work that has been done, all ya can say is "WOW!"

If Volume 2 comes out in late August, does it mean you're going to produce about one Volume per year since it takes what, 10 months to make one? Any details on Volume 3? Also I wouldn't mind if the program is shorter if it has the narration on/off feature. I think it's well worth it.
@nacesvideographyllc9075
@nacesvideographyllc9075 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings, my goal is still 2 productions per year. Many factors contribute to the taping schedule, including weather and other commitments the artist's have, both professionally and with family. In the end I spent 30 total days at Tony's for this production (Howard's was 23 days). While I am still open to a narration on/off feature, I will need the full 2 hours again for Tony's program to capture the complete reenactment of a 24 hour period on the St. Louis Division, plus the specialty segments including 3 "How To" clinics. Volume 3 will be Ted Pamperin's C&O in the transition era, including the locations of Sewell, Thurmond, and Hinton in the early winter. I do plan to have this program ready for December or January, as Ted's schedule will permit 3-4 days of videoing at a time, which will allow for a quicker release. Thank you.
@iceeking2006
@iceeking2006 5 жыл бұрын
Ted Pamperin's C&O sounds amazing. There's a clip on here about it so there's a preview of it. I was hoping you can film Ron Mei's HO scale Sunset Route which was just featured in the August 2019 Model Railroader. It would be rather different than the first 3 volumes because of the setting and the emphasis on passenger trains. There's quite a bit of freight trains too. Hopefully you'll consider this layout for Volume 4 or the near future. I'm waiting on Volume 2 which I think you said will come out in late August.

5:30 What type engine is that 4-8-2? Mikado?
@nacesvideographyllc9075
@nacesvideographyllc9075 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, if you are referring to the one that appears at the 5:30 time mark, it is a Key Imports brass model of a New York Central L2A 4-8-2. While most railroads called the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement "Mountains", since the New York Central Railroad was rather flat they decided to call their 4-8-2 locomotives "Mohawks", after the river in New York.

Are the sound affects coming from the train themselves.
@nacesvideographyllc9075
@nacesvideographyllc9075 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Manuel, while all of Howard's locomotives have sound installed, and he also does have some ambient sounds (frogs by a pond, birds by a river, etc.) all of the audio sounds in the program were overlaid for several reasons: (a) attempting to get a shot with all other noise in the room completely quiet would have been nearly impossible, as sump pumps kicking on, furnaces running, toilets being flushed, phones ringing, sneezing, people walking upstairs, etc. happens; (b) some of the sound files are copy-written and cannot just be used in a commercial program without permission; (c) I could add other railroad sounds such as the freight cars passing by, turntable spinning, etc. which are from my personal recordings; (d) I could add other ambient sounds such as automobiles, waterfalls, etc. that I purchased from a company that sells such sounds for commercial productions; (e) I was able to precisely synchronize the steam chuff sounds with the rods properly being in the 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions. If you liked the locomotive sounds, both steam & diesel, I have an agreement with ESU Loksound to use their sound files in my video productions, I recommend you check out their products (www.loksound.com). The music is from Howard & Sandy's band. In all, I spent 300 hours on the sound effects for the 2 hour program. Thank you for your question, I appreciate your interest .... Forrest

Wonderful layout. Excellent pick. Have you though about having a narration on/off feature on your DVD's? This would really help for those of us who want to hear the dubbed train sounds without the informative narration. Any idea about the layout in Volume 3? Keep up the fine work Forrest. Thumbs up.
@nacesvideographyllc9075
@nacesvideographyllc9075 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, we originally did intend to have a narration on/off feature on the Howard Zane Piermont Division program, but to do so you actually have to save 2 complete program soundtracks to the DVD / Blu-ray disk, and with the program being 2 hours it completely filled up the disk. The only other options would be to cut down the program by 15 or 20 minutes to create the data storage room for the 2nd audio soundtrack without narration, or go to a 2 disk program. I may possibly do this in the future depending on feedback from viewers. I am meeting with a layout owner at the end of the month to discuss their's for Volume 3, they are very open to a program being done on their masterpiece, I just need to make sure I can light it properly as while it looks spectacular to a visitor, to the camera everything is dark. Glad you are enjoying the programs.
