I'm pretty sure I saw these boats race in St.Pete at Lake Maggori back in the 70s....

Sure did. I lived at the lake. First saw the inboards was late 50s. Kid at 11/12 , and couldn't wait until February ........Wa Wa' Ms Crazy Thing, Ms Pinky, Peaches, ( of course Sun Shine Baby the local favor it) , Ms Washington. Black Magic , Pattys (?..Pet) By Now, Ms Wildroot, Long Gone, Avenger,Tinker Bell, Sothern Air, Dragon, Topper, Lauterback Special, Penuts ---memory is getting better with each glass of vino . Oh yea, Miss Valleyfield came to St.Pete in 1966 or 67 and blew a blower belt. Many -many years later I ran a 145 Farmer hull at Maggori with little success ... it didn't matter, just to be part of the show . A lot of drama back in the day . God awful fast boat. Vallyfield is in my bucket list. Jack Q

@@johnquillman785 My father was the original director of Police Athletic League and best friends with Ray Gassner, Frank Zirkle, Roy Hoffman,Fred Bryson and a bunch of people that put on the southland sweepstakes regatta. I looked forward to it as well every single year, worked as a runner betwee n the timing tower snd pits for about 4 years. Spent a lot of time catching fish at Gassners Marina on Frenchman's Creek right there by 19. I lived in Stevenson Manor right Down the street.

GODDANG!! JUST DRIVING THE SHIT OUT OF THAT THING!! IMPRESSIVE. You know; the first time Bobby brought this boat to Raleigh it was like 89 or thereabouts. We just all stood there and wondered if our buddy Bobby and his brother had just gone off the deep end. The sponsons, the narrowing transom, the far forward seating position...crazy. Then it ran, and ran, and ran. Faster every time out. Then you have this. Bobby vs. George at his best; also driving the shit out of Feels So Good. The fact that Bobby just runs and hides from the premier 2.5 heat in world is all the more impressive. Valleyfield is Daytona, LeMans, and Indy all wrapped up in one.

Who got hurt?...I totally don't remember this....Wow..the prop jags are unreal on the Dynastie....Anyone have some recall here??...

No one got hurt, Jean-Pierre Lessard who stalled was standing on his boat and jumped in the water to avoid the other boat coming towards him.

This was one of my father's proudest moments. He loved racing and always dreamed of winning the Valleyfield Regatta. Sadly he passed away on January 27th of this year. Thank you for sharing this video of Robert Weaver and his Lobster Boat.

I remember that weekend mostly because of your father. As far as i am concerned one of the most dominant performances ever. Especially considering he put his trust deeply in a hull completely experimental!...I came away from that weekend respecting the Lobster Boat over all competitors...on the way out of town I got gas Monday morning, and so did your dad...I told him I was amazed and impressed...congratulations!!...He was very humble...to this day an amazing accomplishment for experamental hulls for all time!!...He truly schooled the best in a very competitive class...A story for the ages in my mind.

What ever happened with this 777 hull?...it was a seemingly short lived style, 444 also being similarly designed around then..neither hull has a legendary aura, and seem to have disappeared from view today?...

I grew up a few streets over from where these races were, the thunder of these boats is a memory I have to this day, my dad used to setup the pa system for this event among others in the area, he would put 100s of horns up on poles for this race around the bay.

This was the year I raced in the Nationals in this class in Oregon. Their were 106 boats in 145's then. 3 drivers were killed in 1985 and 1986. Small but dangerous
