There was another huge connection I made to symphony of the night too, remember how both the rings together inserted into the blocks in the clocktower open the floodgates? Well if you've played SOTN you will distinctly remember that putting on 2 rings in the central clock room is what unlocks the second half of the game. I reckon this is a direct influence, its just too specific.
