Light stick! Look like a great addition to many types of kit. Does it work for long? And what is the price !/ Cost like?

My Dutch Army tent arrived this week and I have to wonder how these amazing quality canvas tents never got used. I have come to the conclusion that the Dutch Bivi is a smaller version of this tent. This canvas tent is 7:29 much better than the Coleman Darwin plus 3 Which I had previously before. That was a joke, my head and feet touched either end of that tent .Opening both sides is a game changer for me.

Small knife, cotton balls, small bit steel wool, storm matches, purification tablets, 3 condoms, beef stearate candle, torch, needle and thread and a button compass. After 30 years of wandering these are the only things I ever used. everything else I found to be dead weight. Found a neat little wind up torch that was lighter than my mini Maglite and almost as bright.

In some very specific situations this would be better than having nothing, but to be honest, after years of thinking about these types of kits I come to the conclusion that pocket survival kits are dead weight and may even be harmful as it gives a false sense of preparedness and almost always just a waste of money. Id recommend adding water purification tablets

If you heat a needle up it can be pushed into the wax candle as can a scalpel blade, you can also wrap snare wire around the candle also you can have some sticking tape wrapped around that , the signal mirror can also be used to hold pre made fishing rigs or hook to nylon simply notch the mirror or debit card top and bottom and wind you’re rigs around the card, you can also purchase a debit sized fresnel lens they are excellent for fire starting. You can also stick a small fridge magnet inside the tin or cut a piece of strip magnet to fit the outside of the tin it’s always useful especially if you loose you’re compass, you have a magnet to magnetise you’re needle 😉

Don't get me started, I think I may know why! Shipping it in the UK, many companies now will not ship anything with a blade in it, in case it goes to a kid. It is all silly law nonsense bs. Royal Mail now you cannot even ship a swiss army knife. They call it a "bladed article" they won't ship it! It is taking the piss! I could be wrong, but that is the current state of play for normal posting. You then have to use couriers, but its more expensive.

Not very informative at all. So what steel is this blade, what are the scales made of, how well centered is the blade closed? Most of your description we could see for ourselves, colour etc.

The idea that carbon steel holds an edge longer than stainless steel is false. The chromium carbides within stainless steel are several magnitudes harder than iron carbides within carbon steel.
@DASCSWEM4 ай бұрын
Edge retention is not just numbers, in practice, it is affected by many other factors. Harder steels are prone to microchipping, due to the steel’s more brittle structure. For food prep and ”soft” work this is usually no problem, but can happen quickly when carving harder wood especially if processing knotty wood. Both types of steels have pros and cons. Both are good.
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy3 ай бұрын
@DASCSWEM if your knife steel is chipping or micro chipping, it's junk.

I came to this video to research what makes a good bushcraft knife as I occasionally find myself engaged in some aspects of bushcraft. I do some camping in the backcountry and often gather wood and build fires. I was hoping you'd cover which steel is less likely to damage in heavy use, like when splitting wood with a knife and baton. Still informative, but I'll have to do some more research. Currently, most of my knives are 420HC, which is a high carbon stainless. I just got a blade with M390, but it's too small for bushcrafting.

While teaching a trauma response class recently an elderly student did not have the strength or dexterity to use a CAT TQ effectively. She was able to achieve arterial occlusion with the Slishman Wrap. I continue to be impressed with this device.

I like carbon blades and got the C Garberg despite of some Mora officials and sales men claim 14c28n stainless steel of garberg holds better age.
