What kind of level have you got to be at to get through the 6 days? Not talking about competitive, just surviving

what do you think about putting a mousse in the front wheel with a pressure of 0.5bar?
@TheRussellHouston Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I have no experience with tyre mousses. My advice would be go with the heavy duty tube, but you've still time to test a mousse and see what it's like... I'd be interested to know👍

Thanks for your good instruction :) What was the model of the cold weather riding pant? Thanks :)

Thank you for the feedback Ian, the model name of the waterproof trousers is Rab Firewall pants.

@@TheRussellHouston Thanks :) Quick question for you.... from your videos it's clear that endurance and adaptability are important for the 6 days... what about technical skill level? If you compared this to a local trial what level would you want to be at to negotiate the sections well as tired as you're bound to be? Trying to set a goal to reach for and build towards :)
@TheRussellHouston Жыл бұрын
@@iang7007 I ride at Semi-Expert level in Northern Ireland, the only thing I can relate that to is somewhere around the clubman line in the S3 nationals. I was previously an Elite rider in the late 90's so I have a reasonable technical level which definitely helps.

@@TheRussellHouston Thanks :) I've got some work to do ;) Our terrain here is different, not sure where to find rocky river beds to practice in. Have to think how to train for that?

Great video series, I've not done the ssdt but have done the pre65 2day, I zip tied a number plate to my rucksack incase I lost the one off my bike and helped to identify my rucksack from all the others at the end of the section, I saw a few people that had picked up the wrong bags

I know what you are talking about with the weather conditions. My wife and I spectated the 2016 edition every day. I remember waking up the first morning and seeing how low down on the hills the snow was. I knew it wouldn't bother me, but I wondered if my wife would call an end to the day early. She stuck it out, like a trooper, every day. It was a great part of our five week trip to the UK and Ireland. When we rented our Ford Focus in Fort William for the week, we declined the insurance offered by the car rental business. Included in our insurance policy for our own vehicles at home was coverage for rental cars. It was only after returning home to British Columbia, that I re-read the policy close enough to realize my mistake. Rental coverage was only for Canada, the US and Mexico ! Yikes!

I've 'DIY' waterproofed my boots with McNeat Seam Grip on all the soles/seams and then 4 layers of Dubbin Wax = waterproof boots. Takes 24hours for the seamgrip to set then smoother it in boot wax. Worked an absolute dream. Hope it helps!

First, I'll say this is super intriguing, thanks for doing it. Going to be watching again this year from afar. Second, that sweatshirt you are wearing looks like if you put the hood up it'll swallow your whole head!

Carry a plastic bag, it folds up so takes no room up in a pocket but if you need water you can fill it up from a stream.
