A delightful video Lesley! What a lovely mixture of village and woodland scenes. I'm absolutely no expert but as it happens I've also been curious about ages of individual trees recently, and I recalled there was a system for estimating the age based on the circumference of the trunk. There's a few online calculators and guides and I think based on your estimate of three arms that's probably about a two metre circumference? I think that corresponds to somewhere in the region of 120 years old...? I believe that is pushing the limits of what a birch tree can get to, so perhaps explains why it was unusually big (and also, sadly, looked like it was on its way out). I completely agree the beech (I think?) wood at 3:58 looked like a very inviting prospect for camping! Beech woods are great aren't they? That openness between the trees (nobody wants to camp in dense brambles!), but also the ancient feel to them.

@littlegrandadoutdoors2 ай бұрын
@@Chilternwildcamper yes! That's why the lanshan is more of a summer tent... though its very easy to lower the fly, all you have to do is lower your hiking poles. It is not set in stone , how high you must set your poles , it's up to you and the weather... just keep lowering it until the inner becomes too loose and out of shape then use pegs or clips to tighten it up by rolling th top/peak of the inner over....A balance can be met.. I have the 4season inner in mine so I don't have to worry about the wind getting under, infact I go the opposite way and heighten it as much as poss , never get any condensation no matter the weather and never have to give it an airing before I pack it away... putting up and taking down fly and inner separately is a major waste of time and energy, I only do it in wet conditions on multi day adventures, just to keep the inner dry.... sorry iam going on n on.... @TheSelbsters one side has a guy line, the porch side has a pocket to insert trekking pole, it does well in the wind so far, not flappy inside as its a inner pitch first tight inner with Vango draw cord to add even more stability. The downside is the fly is abit loose and makes a drumming sound, got used to it though!
@Ash1253013 күн бұрын
I can get the outer fly on mine super taught, simply by pulling it down by hand - while at the same time pulling up on those three tensioner straps! (one at a time) I also keep my ‘brow-pole’ underneath the main pole.. I don’t know what it is about the 15D Vango Sil-Nylon, but it doesn’t seem to stretch when it gets wet, unlike many other tents made of this material, including my trusty Lanshan-1.
