little did the railroad company known as Port Of Tillamook Bay Railroad knew, just 2 months later, a horrifying and almost almost deadly storm would put POTB to rest forever.

This is so surreal. One of the last times these canyon walls and forests will hear the distinctive sounds of SD9s working hard pulling heavy trains over the Coast Range. No one knew it at the time but, just a few weeks later, everything would change. The peaceful Salmonberry River would become a raging torrent sending water and debris into trestles like battering rams and washing out large sections of track and roadbed. This is truly an historic piece of footage.

I can remember when the old Milwaukee came through St Maries on its way up to Avery. At Avery the electrified branch into Montana began. Great memories!!

48ers. You can't kill em with a stick :-) Not sure how the NSW railways would have ever got by without them.

Too bad such a large section of that historic wood trestle had to be replaced. I forget what happened. Did it burn or something? That old caboose I think is one of 4 or 5 bought brand new by Weyerhauser in 1981. They were originally assigned to their Chehalis Western operation, working around Curtis, Vail and the former Milwaukee Road Chehalis Sub running log trains into Tacoma. That operation ceased operation in 1992.

I like to listen to this with my headphones in. Listening to the battle between machine and nature, it’s awesome after the mid-train units pass the pace quicken and the battle changes brakes are squealing and gravity is a calling. Awesome video
