I am negotiating the purchase of a very rusty 1971 GTV in the US. It is straight and complete but needs everything. It was last registered for the road in 1984, shows 64,000 miles, which could well be accurate. I want to rescue it but the owner seems to think it is worth a lot as it sits in his scrapyard and sinks into the ground. It has potential but only for someone willing to spend a lot on parts and can do the work himself.

Good job to save it, though it would have been nice to repair the metal to a higher standard for a lot less filler. Replacement panels are pretty cheap, though it is a lot of work, so I understand the constraints of a budget and time, even though that means all the paint will have to be redone eventually. Those wheels though...brutal.
@OneTrackMind715 ай бұрын
@plus790 thanks to the exchange rate & dutiesn South Africa, the cost of panels is quite prohibitive on a restricted budget. I’ve learned a lot about saving cars since doing this car and absolutely agree, less body filler should have been the order of the day. I know now that I will redo this car again one day to the standard it deserves. About those rims. Is that a compliment or complaint? I believe rims are easy to swap out, in fact the little guy is already on his third set since the ones in the video.

@OneTrackMind71 not a fan of the modern wheels, I'm afraid. They make retro styled alloy wheels and you can get them in 15" for good tire choices.

As early as 2027, driving with a combustion engine will probably no longer be permitted outside of professional and delivery trips, the Federal Exhaust Gas Fun Ban Ordinance BABVVO was recently announced and exhaust gas fun will soon be banned. The Transport Tourism Emission Restriction Federal Ordinance TEBBVO was also announced....should get all combustion engines commercial vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural machinery and even inland waterway vessels off the roads / waterways by 2035. Buses in the cities (and all taxis) must be completely converted to electric drives by 2025 (supposedly an EU regulation!)! That will be funny! Have you ever read Berlin leaks? It takes off your shoes! They are planning the demobilization under the cloak of a campaign against "fun using fossil drive energy" in road traffic... the SOKO Autoposer should hunt down all fun fossil drivers in the future! This will be a STVO Stasi with BABVVO apps for monitoring as a little helper to control exhaust emissions.

It is a great achievement to make something from a wreck and requires more dedication than most people realise "one track mind" indeed!. I like the mods to the rear wings which are nicely done (I'm less keen on the 1990s VW colour or the interior, but each to his own).

What beautiful car. Your build quality and the respect you pay to the inherarant aestheic of the Alpha shines through.Thanks.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!!!

Wow, what a roar this wonderful Alfa 1750. The unmistakable sound of the historic and inimitable glorious Alfa Romeo can be heard perfectly. A unique pleasure in driving it. One question: did you drive in comfort with flip-flops? I suppose in these cases, you drive barefoot.
@OneTrackMind712 жыл бұрын
I wear flip flops most of the time and therefor drive barefoot, especially in long trips.
@ilfred68572 жыл бұрын
@@OneTrackMind71 Thank you for your answer. That's exactly what I do too. I wear flip flops most of the year, and I also take them off every time and ride better barefoot. In my experience (I have had three Alfa Romeos), driving barefoot means for me to feel the engine totally, it is exactly a symbiosis with the car.

@@Qwerty8 I set out to fulfil a lifetime ambition. Of doing a project car, I learned a lot through the process and I’m happy with the end result. I made the video for my friends and family and never expected it to get any views. My philosophy was to take something that has been abandoned and give it a nee life, save it. Therefor rescue. I never wanted an original or concours car, which would involve a full restoration to original. Thanks for the link, I love Vw bus!

@@OneTrackMind71 Perhaps it is due to individual conviction. For me, there is actually only one correct way of preservation. The beautiful thing about Venice is the visible history. For me, preserving the history of a car does not mean returning it to its original condition. It is preserving as much history as possible, any dent in the sheet metal that will not limit function should be preserved in my opinion. The same goes for corrosion - stop it and preserve it. What you have done there does not meet with my understanding. Sorry. It’s a personal choice.
