I am from Hiriyur. If anyone wants to visit Vanivilas Sagar Dam, please drive on Bengaluru to Chitradurga NH 4. The road is in excellent condition. Start early by 6am from Bengaluru. Please also visit Chitradurga Fort after you see Vanivilas Sagar Dam. You van complete both the Dam and Fort in one day and reach back Bengaluru by 10 pm. Just after you pass Hiriyur, take a deviation on the left to Vanivilas Sagar Dam which is 18kms. Drive up the hill to the dam where the Travellers Bungalow is located. If you know someone locally, you can go into Travellers Bungalow to use the restroom, freshen up and they will let you walk from one end of the dam to the other side. Many movies were shot at this dam. When you reach the other side of the dam, there is a spot where you can stand and shout and it will echo 8 times. Chitradurga fort is 30 minutes drive from Hiriyur. Please take a licensed guide to take you around the fort and you will learn lot of history. You need a minimum of 2-3 hours to see the fort. Check with locals/guide to see Chandravalli lake(behind the fort). Don’t forget to explore “Ankaliswamy caves” which is about 50 feet below ground level at Chandravalli Lake.

Travelling to South Goa from Bangalore then Bangalore to Davangere to Haveri to Bankapur to Mundagod (Tibet area) to Yellapur to Karwar (via Arbail Ghat, small ghat but more traffic as heavy traffic vehicles travel from this place & this ghat connects from Hubli to Mangalore) to South Goa via Cancona (Paloleam) North Goa Bangalore to Hubli to Alnavar to Ramnagar to Anmod (Anmod ghat) to Pholem to Ponda to North Goa (Ponda will connect to multiple places like Panjim, Vasco, Madagaon). Ramnagar till Karnataka border roads not good as Construction still going on from many months. If you check in Google Map then for North Goa like Mapusa & norther side it will show via Tilari ghat or Chorla Ghat, Tilari ghat have steep curves. If driving through Chorla ghat then you can skip Belgaum & fro Dharwad travel till M K Hubli & take left diversion towards Chorla.
