The drivetrain was pretty stone-age for 1987; the Iron Duke mated to a 3-speed automatic. This was a standard drivetrain for the S-10 pickups back in the day. It's built to spend a lot of time puttering around at low speeds in subdivisions, not wound out on the highway. A lot of mail carriers in rural areas opted to use their own 4x4 vehicles so they could effectively deal with icy, snowy, or muddy back roads.

Yeah, I’d say these did their intended job extremely well! Although I could definitely see why one would use their own vehicle, these don’t deal with dirt roads, or heavy rain super well from what I’ve experienced.

How many times you had to do the intake manifold, if at all? And at how many miles. I got an 11' lx Vic with 100k wondering how it'll hold up, my older 07 p71 blew the intake at about 130k

Awesome cars, I on my 3rd. The AC can be fixed for literally penny's ( the o-rings are bad in the controller) also the door looks need new pop rivets to hold the locking mechanisms in place. Google is your friend.

@@theslammed2418 The evaporator cores leak in them when they get older and its the labor that high. Or who knows maybe its a relay or a fuse. Having AC in a car is a state of mind, I am age 68 and I dont even use them but just roll the window down. My 2005 lincoln town car has good AC, but I dont use it at all. I just bought one used for my son whose learning how to drive soon. Approaching 59k miles 2006. Does the cruise control work on yours? That’s one thing that is not working on the car I bought. I missed it during inspection. Other than that really like it. Ford Panther platform. Oh I see on your video I want to get that cruise control working.
@theslammed2418
@theslammed2418 19 күн бұрын
@@dudespin yeah the cruise control does work but basically all the other buttons on the wheel either stick or just don’t work at all. This is probably one of the best cars to learn to drive on. I personally learned on a 2000 crown vic which is basically the same thing. Keep this thing up with maintenance and it’ll last forever

I've always wanted to drive. However, I only see out of one good eye. It's legal in all states to drive with one eye, so long as as you can see welll out of the good eye. Would I drive like a mad man? Not likely. I'd embrace the smooth, the slow, just take it easy. I mean hey, I'm in no rush to get places.
