When I was a grom in 1963, the Hobie Phil Edwards model was the #1 bomb. Later it was the G&S Hynson model.

Buttons and Marvin were both remarkable surfers with styles like no other . They both had that Hawaiian glide on the wave. Will miss the both of you two❤

It's really good to see that he just likes to keep the board well trimmed and stay in the curl when possible instead of habitually running to the nose to hang some toes. Very nice style on a fine stick.

Terrific video, and loved the entire Phil Edwards series - really captures the essence of surfing on a classic board!

wish i could show pic of my 9'7 phil edwards signed hobie probably from 1965 gteat condition such fine lines even non-surfers admire it catches waves even if the wave has passed some say it's so heavy it would hurt too much if it hits you sure uses that momentum both paddling out and on any wave, such as a lowtide wedge i got the other day cruiser and so good looking in its fiberglass and three stringers

miss him, even though he is a serious kook...remembering his ohana rental in lanikai & dinner at buzz's lanikai...me & a shellifeesh, and probably a grant, remember his apartment at velzyland...yeah, no he may have been a kook but the mayo county archerette loved him, and he really wanted to date a meowler but nobodhi would facilitate that, "I ain't a freakin' matchmaker! Is that why you asked me out?! No, if you want her you gotta try hanapa'a her yourself." But he always picked us up in his pedicab anyways and pedalled us wherever we, together or alone, were headed. Be it lewers to ala moana, or royal Hawaiian to Liliu'okalani, or even seaside to sanscuuuuie beach. He really was a very nice guy. He was really pleased with his his famous big ride. And I think the ocean demonstrated its aloha for him the way it made him another "Hawaiian Soul...not lost at sea, but only wandering...." even tho he was all beef jerky that nite, i still really liked him. We ALL always listened to his AceKule (numba 1 hwn charlei brown) surf reports. (sigh)

I met him once for a brief moment in my early teens... I was in the Local Motion Surf shop with a friend on Kapiolani blvd and this guy just pops out of nowhere and surprise us... I forgot what he said to us but it was funny... I just remember his big smile and happy face... Me and my friend knew he was Buttons... after that encounter with him I could see his aloha spirit.. He was cool and so friendly... I didn’t know he was hooked on drugs and passed away until recently seeing him on youtube... Like him I was also on ice since late 80s on and off and did some time in Halawa and the Philippines... I want to thank everyone who uploaded videos of Buttons. To me Buttons was awesome. Aloha Uncle Buttons!...
