Strange how nobody comments on buying meat in supermarkets. I guess you people never had a luxury to go straight to the butcher shop for a fresh meat, with a local origin. Even the vegetables can't compete to those on green markets, no mather how nice they look. I hope there's a better place to buy food over there.

Just note expat is the word for white immigrant. And immigrant is the word white people refuse to use to label themselves. Expat thus has an eyeroll negative connotation. Not attacking you, just sharing a food for thought.

On one hand it is worth saving some money once in awhile but if you constantly shop in France or Germany while living in Switzerland you are doing a disservice to the people of Basel the residents and citizens. The prices are high for a specific reason. Because everybody makes a decent wage not only in Basel but in all of Switzerland. Most of the lower end salaries are around 40,000 CHF. Rent is very affordable, while transportation and food are on the expensive side. Taxes are also much lower in Switzerland and Basel compared to Germany. There are many advantages to living in Switzerland and Basel over the rest of the EU countries. Shopping within the country and the City is the right thing to do. And please do not tell me you can't afford it... because you're driving an expensive car...🤦🏻♂️ whatever your husband is making, he is not being taxed 50% to 60% like in Germany and France. And if you're paying some tax to the UK you're getting that money back or a tax credit from Switzerland. If this trend continues to rise Switzerland will be forced to impose higher tariffs or inspect the borders on a more regular basis. Do the right thing. 👍
@troyeakb63142 жыл бұрын
That's the advantage of the single market Why are the borders open? It's coz of the deal these countries have Do you think the EU are stupid enough to not check out the borders? It's all a trade and free movement

Adams I found it a challenge to be honest as I’d never done it before. However, there are strict rules on the speed limits...making it easier because you have to drive extra slow which gives you more thinking time if that makes sense... good luck!

@thebubbiliciousfamily78144 жыл бұрын
A SH Hi, I wouldn’t want to comment as that’s probably a question for estate agents here but I guess from my knowledge on this, it ranges from around 1000 upwards a month. Best to have a look on line. Good luck!
@archetypex654 жыл бұрын
In Basel you should be able to find a two-bedroom apartment starting around 1200 CHF. Now mind you that will probably be in Klein Basel, not Grosse Basel. A reasonable-nice two bedroom apartment will run between 1500 and 1800 Francs per month. Nicer Apartments will run from 2000 CHF and upwards per month. Depending on location, size and amenities.
@roundingcorners4 жыл бұрын
i still never understood why the swiss and germans dont make.a pact to bring supermarket pricing equal to each other, someone could make a killing in switzerland with a grocery chain
@archetypex654 жыл бұрын
Because Germany pays 50% to 60% in income taxes while Switzerland does not. In Basel the federal tax rate is around 30% to 35%, while the Canton tax is somewhere around 4% to 5%. The Swiss grocery store workers make much more than their German counterparts. This is one of many different reasons why food prices are high in Switzerland. The salaries of workers are much higher than German Workers. Switzerland does not provide free healthcare and that is a reason why they do not impose a 50% to 60% income tax. It's not a matter of making a pact it's a matter of quality of living, keeping poverty low and allowing free markets to dictate Healthcare rather than government control. Switzerland single-payer system works very well and Switzerland has one of the best Healthcare Systems in the world.

Maura Liguori Yes, sorry for late reply. There is a control on what you can bring back and they will randomly stop cars on route back at the border and check their receipts. Mainly it’s the meat they look at, I hope that helps Maura.

I just run into your channel, congrats and welcome in the three border triangle ! Looks like you quickly found the local good deals ;-) As a cross-border commuter (living in the French side, working near Basel) I quite often swing by the grocery and DIY store or petrol stations in Germany along the way. TBH German's behaviours and actions towards the French (i.e. by banning us from crossing the border) in the very early stage of the COVID pandemic, inclined me to change my mind.

I would be disappointed a bit as well. I would have preferred someone from the staff explaining everything. I like to listen to a person instead listening to a voice recorder. Maybe I am old fashioned, I guess I am when it comes to this. But I am sure that for the girls making their own chocolate packages was really enjoying. I had water in my mouth looking at all the different pralines and chocolate delights.

I like blueberries, I can buy enough blueberries, say 0.5 - 1 kg, from the fruit market, for £2, to last a week. The same amount, would be quadruple in a supermarket, in the UK, say £8. In Germany, it would be double that, and in Switzerland, double that, so, say about £32. JUST STAY IN THE UK!
