Yeah, well they keep predicting 0-1' or 1-2' waves at Will Rogers and half way thru the day they figure out its 3-4' and change the prediction. Almost every day, for months now they cannot predict. I use it for surfing and launching an Efoil so it matters as much when its small or big. It's pretty much worthless.

Can't wait to try this! How do you choose the right length/shape of surf skate for a beginner?
@womenandwaves21 күн бұрын
If you have a local skate shop we recommend chatting to them. If you're buying online a deck length of 30-34 in (76-87 cm) and a width of 9-10.5 in (23-27 cm) is a good starting point for most people. A board that's too small can make it difficult to get a comfortable stance for deep carves.

I really like how detailed but easy to understand you go into the importance of the special characteristics of a particular spot, personal preferences and skills in your video. And how this can make or break a session no matter how the Forecast colors and numbers are. I would have missed so many good waves this year if I only trusted the Forecast without taking this into account. Some people complain about Surf forecasts but ignore personal constraints and spot characteristics. So many surfers make this mistake, even experienced surfers. Great video.

Could you elaborate on why it’s so important to have a wetsuit that is such a close fit? I’m finding that women’s wetsuit sizes are u realistic for women’s body sizes and I already own one that is a little too loose for me but it works fine.
@womenandwavesАй бұрын
Hi Jess, great question! The reason a wetsuit needs to be tight is so that it traps a small layer of water between your body and the wetsuit, this water then warms up and keeps you warm. If your wetsuit is too big for example, this layer of water would be too much to warm up and could do the opposite and keep you cold - especially if it 'puddles' in certain areas like under your arms, lower back etc. I highly recommend trying a RipCurl wetsuit, they fit all women's sizes so well because they are so flexible and fit great to the curve of every body :)

More great tips! Some don't realize many boards edges on the bottom are a little sharper and easier to get your fingers around. Carrying on your head is great for windy days (like on your hip) too. Keep up the great work!

Hi Chloe! Yes, Longboards can get pretty heavy! It's always worth trying out a few different carrying techniques to find the right one for you. Hopefully this video helps 🤩

I love the shark fin in the thumbnail 😅 Reason #1 why I don’t surf on my period! I know plenty of women who do, but I personally don’t feel safe (I do make the exception for surf trips). Interesting fact about the seawater & bacteria being absorbed in tampons - thank you for including this information. I had a very uncomfortable session in Iceland a few days ago, but caught a couple waves so it was worth it.
@womenandwaves2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Honestly you have nothing to worry about - There is no evidence to support that sharks are interested in you when you are on your period. Also, not only is menstrual fluid coated in mucus, but it is made up of different properties, not just blood. Plus, on average, a woman will only lose 100ml of blood throughout her 5-7 day cycle - a really small amount!! Although it sometimes doesn't feel like this haha. We have loads of information on our blog post here which might help put your mind at ease: womenandwavessociety.com/women-waves-guide-to-surfing-on-your-period/

For me, my board, and my wetsuit, I bring three large bottles of tap water to the beach to rinse everything after surfing and before the 45 min drive. Then when I get home, I rinse the wetsuit again in the tub or bring in the shower w/me and use a mild coconut bodywash to wash the (ahem!) private areas. While I do hang it over the shower rod for a bit to drip, I leave it overnight in my bedroom on the hanger that came w/it, but w/legs flipped over shoulders to take weight off if that makes sense. Just my 2c, adding to what you said here.☮️

All great tips! As an old guy I know we've all come up with methods that work best for us. I like to thoroughly rinse my wetsuit & related gear in a plastic tub. Once I've got everything rinsed my washing machine will let me run the spin cycle without the agitator moving so I spin out excess water before hanging everything up. I have never damaged anything dong this but use your own judgement. I hang mine outside out of the sun but where any normal breezes blow which helps speed up drying. I like to dry the inside out first thinking if it isn't completely dry that will make it a little easier to get on. Great tip on the socks and bag. If your suit has those anti slip strips at the ends of arms & legs if you roll them up a bit it's much easier to get in. In the winter I hang everything in the garage and use a fan to circulate air over the wetsuit drying it fairly quickly. BTW I have a lot of succulents in my garden and they seem to like the rinse water when I'm done but you may want to be careful with that. Again, thanks for the great tips! I always appreciate your videos. Hopefully we never stop learning from each other!
