@ReconHikes5 күн бұрын
I guess I stopped mentioning it cause I figured people are tired of hearing about it. Unfortunately, it is still a problem. Pretty typical pattern. I wake up fine I walk about 6 miles, starts hurting. I stop for lunch at about 1 PM and take some ibuprofen. And then about 13 or 14 miles it becomes painful to keep walking and I stopped for the day. Unfortunately, that’s the reality. Definitely slowing me down, I’m not doing big miles like I hoped. But it is what it is.

Hi Recon, Funny you mention that you couldn’t get a good nights sleep in a bed. Same some times happens to me too when backpacking. I found if I spend the night on the floor in a motel I sleep soundly. Go figure. Sept seems like a good weather month going south. As for the hurricane damage, looks like I won’t be doing my last section on the AT next year, Springer to the NOC. Will do the LT north of Killington. Old School

Hi Recon, As you might know, hurricane Helene has raised hell in the southern part of the AT. Erwin TN was flooded. The street bridge across the Nolenchucky is gone, and the hostel there was badly flooded. The higher elevations saw 100 mph gusts, plus in some places they had up to 30 inches of rain. Currently many roads across the mountains are closed do to flooding and landslides. What I would be concerned about would be the number of blowdowns that will take weeks to clear on the trail, the work arounds on blown out sections and resupply in flood effected trail communities. Maybe confirm at ATC in Harpers Ferry. Old School

Hi: My husband, our dog and I hiked the LT NoBo the summer of 1974! We were told the bridge over Clarendon Gorge had just opened the previous day! On our crossing it was actually incomplete, missing all the fencing, mesh protection etc., only the major cable on either side so by the center of the bridge anything to hold on to was @ best knee high. Crossing was a terrifying experience for us! Beautiful area and we still talk about that experience today!🙏 We are thoroughly enjoying your posts, thank you ❣️
