It's a shame she never really ultimately cared for Elvis. She was young, nothing but infatuation. So many men she's been involved with have said what she really thought of him. He really was the person emotionally she cared for the least...sad really.

Well done Sir. I would have contacted the seller, telling him the story, to ask if he would withdraw them from general sale in order that you could have bought them directly. I've been searching for my wife's Great Uncle's medals since 2005 when I found out about them. (He was killed in the War) He had a Battle of Britain DFC. The medals were in the possession of my wife, having been left to her by her mother. Not knowing why, she gave them to her Grandmother when requested, who sold them in the early 1990's. Due in part to my search, with questions posed on various forum, I was contacted by a Dutch guy and we (our two young daughters as well) were invited to the unveiling of a memorial (in company with the wife of he pilot, she unveiled the memorial) to her Great Uncle and the pilot of the Blenheim. That memorable weekend in 2010 made me all the more intent on trying to recover the medals. I had been put in touch with the purchaser of them at an auction that I had missed. He was quite snotty, wanting any other documentation that I had as he felt it belonged with the medals. He only had documentation freely available from the web. We still have the invitation for the Investiture by the King, etc. I disagreed, stating the medals belonged with the family. I asked him if he would give me first refusal if he sold them. A couple of years later, he reneged on that promise. He contacted me and said he 'felt they should go to auction as he would be likely to get more for them.' There were several people interested in bidding, but knowing the story, told me they wouldn't, hoping they would go back to the family. Unfortunately, the medals were too expensive for me. Maybe one day they will be back where they belong. It's not a question of value. When I was at the memorial, I got quite emotional and I'm related only by marriage.

Unfortunately lots of ww1 medals are lost over the years... believe it or not in the 70s when the men were starting to die relatives got rid of them...many were found in bins ...others given to charity shops ...it wasn't really until the 100 anniversary that the public took an interest in the war again. I have seen thousands of ww1 medal groups for sale over the past 10 years and you wish that they could be reunited with the families of the soldiers. I believe there are one or two websites where you can put in your details of the medals you are searching for but the success rate is very low.

I bought some paperwork related to some medals and a newspaper clipping saying the mother was to receive her late son's medal. The 3 medals had been sold to a coin dealer at the height of the silver boom. I went to the dealer but they weren't interested in helping me or letting me search for them. I went to various medal and militaria shows in the hope I'd find them because the silver boom went bust. At one show, we had to sign in with name and address etc, A month afterward, I received a catalogue from a medal dealer saying this was their latest one. I flipped through it and there, after 6 years, was the medals I had searched for. I bought them in an instant and now everything us as it was when his family sold them, probably after the mother had died. When my time comes, I want them to go to his regimental museum for safe keeping.

My great great uncle had his medals but were stored away. I was given them as an heirloom a few days ago. I was given them along with his dog tag and the string that was around his neck 100 years ago. I am so lucky as many medals were sold during the Great Depression but these were kept through thick and thin, never sold. He died in 1966, decades and decades before I could meet him. However I did meet his daughter, my great Aunty before she sadly passed away a few weeks ago.
