Excellent performance of a very funny and beautiful opera. but what about the COMPLETE version? It is a real pity that the full performance hasn't been uploaded.

It is absurd to have someone talking and at the same time to have some singing going on in the background. Focus!

A marvelous opera that's almost never performed. This number is actually a 'trio' in the score, with Telemann notating the vocal line variously in soprano, alto and bass clefs to denote the three characters therein.

I saw LESTYN sing BRITTEN THE CANTICALS with IAN BOSTRIDGE several years ago.. a remarkable duo that really didn't need an abysmal dance group that was distracting from the sublime music

You're the best countertenor I've ever heard. Years ago when I discovered you singing Bach I was left without words. Keep bringing more seasons of perfect music! And... Those tattoos would look sexy on you 😉😉 Amazing work Maestro!

I am really embarrassed to be blunt, but this does not properly represent Marais' sublime art. The orchestra and even continuo are too noisy, the singers are yelling and wobbling all the time and try to amplify their overstated performance by the silliest ham acting. What are people supposed to think of this magnificent composer!! Maybe one should have hired Craig Violist as musical director...

How lovely. How did Mr. Acker do that ingenious upward scalar run from 21:35 to 21:36 that sounded like it was almost all open strings?
@brandonacker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It is a technique called Campanella where you play scales across different strings to give that open ringing sound. It's a great effect on theorbo :)

The singing of the cast is very uneven, but Ariane (Knutson) and Bachus ( Brunscheen) are very good. Dancing is very consistent with Baroque style. The orchestra is superb. Overall a good production. My compliments to all team.
