A good long scrub of my cutting board with a scouring pad and dish soap always does the trick for me for getting rid of the onion smell. I find sweet Vidalia onions a good swap out for stinky yellow onions - they have a much more subtle smell and never make me cry!

Hi Allie, I ran across your channel because of the pantry challenge. I would like to offer a suggestion on how you might make your overly spicy salsa more palatable at a cheaper cost since I've done the same thing and this is how I solved it. I bought or canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce (either will work) which I then would use to cut the salsa that I made to tone it down. Just mix a can or jar of either with a spoon or two full of the salsa and let it set a bit so the flavors marry. I, also, use salsa somewhat like a spice such as when I make Spanish rice to flavor things that I want to imbue with those flavors. I hope this is helpful to you. Have a wonderful time with this.

@@bjohn28515 thanks! I haven’t done anything with it yet, but I think you inspired me to do a Mexican dish next week trying to use up that salsa!

This was a cool video! What made you decide to convert to Catholicism?
@alliepasch10 күн бұрын
@@AmyHatch-x1c thank you for asking! was asking God for a home church for a long time, and I had a close friend who I thought. Faith was so beautiful and she invited me to come pray with her in the catholic on campus. And I just realized as I allowed myself to be open to the Catholic Church. It was answering a lot of the questions that I still had about the Christian faith! I do have a video talking about my conversion and I think it’s a clean with me video if you wanted to check that one out!

For kombucha, I’ve heard recommended to steep the tea in about a cup of water as a “concentrate” then adding the rest of the water to cool it down. Also, if you want it more bubbly do the second ferment at room temp for a couple days.

@@betterlivingonabudget awe thank you! Canning was definitely intimidating to get into but I just kept watching a bunch of people can stuff on KZbin and felt like I just needed to give it a try! I bought a presto pressure canner on Amazon and the very first thing that I canned on my own was chicken… which is honestly a wild thing to choose as a first option, but why not choose the hardest thing so then the rest of it feels less intimidating haha! At least that was my thought process. I hope you take up canning!

@@alliepasch - I'm planning to move back to Kansas City next year to be closer to all of my family. Once I get settled, I'm definitely planting a garden and buying canning equipment! One of the things I most want to can is chicken. I have three cats, and buy them the large cans of chicken at Aldi ($2.59 for about 10 oz). It's much cheaper than canned catfood, but still way more than if I can it myself!

Hi Ali, new friend here. Your soup looks delicious. Did you get your soup pot from Aldi? If so, I have the same one. ♥ Love the idea of using yogurt to make protein coleslaw! I'm also cooking for one person and prefer to do all my meal prepping on the weekend. I'm doing the challenge through the end of February. I'm trying hard to set a new record for myself and not buy anything until end of January, but already resisting going to the store for dairy, LOL.
