Defence 4 is not suitable for me, it is way too tight. Are there alternatives with similar military grade specs?
@malinyamato
@malinyamato Күн бұрын
I do not recommend this bag. The spec put out by Carinthia does not tell the truth and it is definitely not based on military use standard. I am ethnic Finn from the Lapland of Finland but former officer of light arctic infantry, Sweden having slept in much much roomier bags. I bought Defence 4 L for persons below 200 being triggered by its military durability use profile, a bag used by the Finnsih Army, which a strongly doubt. The specification does not make sense at is way too tight and small that I can hardly pull up the zipper. I compare that to Marmot micron 40 large which has a shoulder with of 79 cms and feels roomier with no issues. Defence 4 is specified at 87 cm, 7 cm wider than the marmot but it is much tighter and does not work out for me. Specification must be way wrong. I measured its length and it is 214 cm not 230 as specified, also wrong.

Used this in Dutch army. First sleeping bag and bivybag (in dpm camo) were made by Carinthia. After a few years, knock off made by the Spanish company Fesca was issued. Less quality, more weight. Bought myself a Carinthia bivy bag and sleeping bag for my hiking trips. Its great gear.

Backpack fits in the foot end.. Mine does. 185 would not be a problem for you, 200cm+ is overkill for 186..

The defence 4 manage -11 C no problem. 1) always use sleeping pad or else compression between you and ground makrs you cold. 2) Prolong the sleeping bags full function by keeping a liner inside your sleeping bag, so dirt (skin oils etc) don't reduce its insulation capacity you only wash the liner not the sleeping bag. 3) dont sleep with your head inside the sleeping bag, You sleep with its hole around your neck, this way you seal heat in and breathing vapor outside the sleeping bag. Use balaclava , hood , cap in any Combo. If you do all those you will reap the full potential of your defence 4 bag.

That third point is really good advice! It really helps to keep the warmth in and prevent any moisture buildup in the bag.

@@vn-dc3hv another obvious one I forgot, don't store the bag compressed for longer periods of time, it reduces the insulation

You have your sleeping bag inside out, the zipper insulator is supposed to be on the inside and then the storm flap on the outside.

I slept with tropen on -1 celsius. If i say i didnt even close the zipper completely, it was about 1/4 of the way open and i was wearing boxers and long sleeved shirt, people probaply will accuse of being all bs because this dude was freezing with defence 4 in -4 celsius... i used Finnish army defence 4 (same temperature ratings, same manufacturer, slight changes...) in as low as -20 and didnt freeze. I slept outside like 120-130 days when i was in the army and that was the only bag we used, if it was +30 on summer day we used it, if it was -22 during winter we used that, it was the only bag we got.

Great video. I have been reading the comments, only civilians use the pertex shell on the outside and military we use Carinthia inside out, as pertex shell on the outside creates an isothermic barrier you wont feel the benefit of the insulation below you. If you use the pertex shell on the outside like a civilian, then its best to have a foam mat/pad inside the bag with you. You must have bought a bag from an ex-soldier. I hope this clarifies this argument in the comment section for you....peace,

I used my defence for on our winter sleepover at 2000m on a mountain at -13C° and a shitty tent and 50cm snow. And it was very cold 😅😅😅 but i think the tent was the problem it was a summer tent with a net as inner shell and yea the wind blew the whole night threw my tent 😅 but i got some sleep. Geras dalykas.

2. Papildoma nagų dildė nereikalinga. Yra letermane su deimanto dulkėmis. 3. Daug peilių :) 4. Siųlau išbandyti vandens filtravimo/švarinimo filtrą Grayl. 5. Naudinga ir patogu tualetinį popierių užsivakumuoti porcijomis celofane vakumatoriumi.

You are right. Looks like it is inside-out in this demonstration. That will probably mess with the rating as the reflective layer in the bag might not work as intended.
