Your shingles appear to be already loose on the outer side. Our's on a new-ish roof are sealed down. I can't believe it would be okay to break that seal, especially in our hurricane-prone area, to insert the Gutter Guard. Please comment. Thanks!

That would scare the crap out of me to use my extension ladder like that. I want it to be at least 2 or 3' above the gutters. I do like the guards though and I'll switch to them. I have had great luck with plastic ones that are on the N side of my house. Without the sun on them they stay locked on. The front ones squirrels knock out of place. I have a combination on the front of aluminum and plastic but I am getting too old to climb a ladder every year to check them. Never seen the bolts before. Seeing the shingle gravel tho, I like to clean that out every year.

It appears to be a complete fake garbage video because the roof that you’re showing where you have the gutter guards installed for 7+ months with all the fall season appears to be brand new. It’s spanking clean if your is clean, you don’t need gutter guards. You don’t have any trees around your property. Then you don’t need any gutter guards don’t waste your time and energy and installing something that you don’t need.

@terryroemer361

I watched this and a few other install YT videos and I was ready to roll. I bought my screen from Costco 9 months ago. I had never noticed it before and it looked decent through the box window. Like many things at Costco If you see it today buy it because it may not show up again. In this case they still had it two weeks ago and on sale. I'm 78 years young. I started at the inside corner of a 20 foot portico and 44 foot roof line and worked out. I simply overlapped the pieces and had double coverage at that joint. I worked out to the ends and had to cut one piece to finish two end runs. I had a shorter run on the opposite side of the front step portico of 26 feet. It took one day to clean the gutters and the next day to install the screens. I used the 3 screw attach recommended by isitworthit. My biggest issue was using an 8ft tri-leg fibreglass Werner ladder. I do have a 12 foot hardwood orchard ladder but over the years it has gained weight. While being extremely stable the weight for moving quickly and easily is not so convenient. I do use it once a year to access the roof so I can clean my chimney. The top comes out about 6 inches above the roof line. This year I may try to position it in the back of my pickup and it will give me an addition 3 feet for accessibility. Back to the project, the tri-leg worked great but it required me to stand on the 2nd to last step from the top in order to look down at the work area. It is sometimes unnerving as going down seems to be more challenging than going up. After finishing the house front gutters I moved to the garage. It has a very steep pitch but again with this video I just used my fingers to press down on the screen. I did not clamp wood slats to bend with as the company install video recommends. It was easier/faster to just use my fingers. Again, one day cleaning (a few hours) and the next day installing. The great thing is that the garage roof line is about 1 foot lower than the house so I didn't have to over extend myself as I had been doing on the house. The garage gutter finished with about 12 inches of excess screen. I left it up until today as taking it down may have allowed leaves or debris to fill in (murphys law). Today I went out to finish but since I was doing some cutting I took all of the metal cutting snips/shears and refurbished them. I don't always have a need or use them but when working on the house I discovered rust and dull edges on the tools. Today I spent two +hours dismantling the snips and clippers, brushing them on the bench grinder and then re-establishing and sharpened their edges. About five tools in all. They now work like brand new from the store. I removed the full piece after marking the cutoff points used a hack saw and vice along with the sharpened tools. Sooo slick. I re-installed and in the final minutes an unannounced wind came up. My house is surrounded by mature pines and 65 foot poplar trees. The winds were 50 to 60 mph gusts. They lasted about 1.5 hours and as suddenly as they came up everything was quiet and gentle as it had been most of the day. The ground was littered with branches and limbs, big and small. Any other time I could have looked up at the gutters and seen endless debris hanging out. Today...nothing. Anything coming down just hit the ground. It was really the most satisfying moment. I think the screens will outlast me even if I live another 20 years. Year after past years I have cleaned the summer debris about this time of year. In a few months tons of poplar leaves will be piling up 8-10 inches deep on the ground and in the cleaned gutters. I would clean them again in November but not all leaves fall at once. I don't care when they fall now, snow melt or rain should pass right on through. Great gutters and good information in your video. Just when you are finishing you start to get really good. I honestly feel that a FJB supporter could even do it! Thanks for the info. PS When I overlapped the inside corner I had to get longer screws. They had the same head but were about an inch long to make it through the two layers of screen plus the rain gutter. Should I file for a patent on the idea?

What is considered “expensive “ to you? Just curious if seeds you can use are actually cheaper than what we do in Florida. For example, I am using Argentine Bahia seed which is 70 dollars for one bag and I needed more than 3 bags for 3100 square feet. If I did sod it costs us at least 3,000 dollars for a small yard.
@Isitworthitreviews
@Isitworthitreviews 3 ай бұрын
Jeez that is expensive for sod. The Scotts Ez Seed is about $63 for a 20lb bag which Scotts claims will cover about 445sqft. But, that is really lawn repair and bare spots. They don't really sell it as a product for large areas. The other products I included in the review are marketed for large areas as well.

@@Isitworthitreviews Thank you for letting me know. As I expected, the Argentine Bahia seeds are more expensive but not by much. Thank you! Yeah I wish I could have done sod but after building my own irrigation system, I was too broke to buy enough sod for 3100 square feet so I'm growing from seed but as you can imagine, with florida sun and watering 4 times every day, the weed explosion is unbelievable. I’ve been trying to keep the house up, cleaning gutters etc for my mom and s-dad. Moms blind. So this was such a great video. I will be installing these guards myself. It looks easy enough. Then I won’t have it so hard cleaning the gutters. Just constantly moving the ladder is enough for me. Cleaning up the mess afterwards takes me out. I finally made a chute out of cardboard into the green waste so I was able to send leaves and beaches fun the chute instead of picking them all up at the end. This will save me even that hassle. @mikedunn7795
@mikedunn7795 5 ай бұрын
Excellent video. A couple of thoughts. The gutter guard that worked was the micromesh type. You have them on at the same pitch as the roof,which I have read is *vital* ( if the guards are horizontal,or near so,they will collect debris like a shelf,and stop draining water). And finally,why on earth do you have a downspout strainer? Whatever grit that got through would not be significant,and would only be impeded by the strainer when going down the downspout. One final tip. I have shirts with breast pockets,and if I have to carry a bunch of screws up a ladder,I put a rare earth magnet in the shirt pocket,and plaster the screws on the shirt over the magnet,and pull them off as needed.
@Isitworthitreviews
@Isitworthitreviews 5 ай бұрын
First, thank you so much for the kind words and watching the video! Second, I LOVE the idea of the magnet in the pocket.. thats genius!!! Can you recommend a specific magnet and where to buy it? The strainer probably is silly.. I am considering removing it for the reason you mentioned.. I guess I just have PTSD from my last gutter system.. As far as the pitch is concerned I don't think it has to be exactly the same as the roof but it should definitely be pitched.. That steeper the pitch the more vital that little valley you create by bending it is so the water does not just run off during heavy rain.
