There is less wow and more flutter on this tape recording or do you have an instable oscillator on your receiver?
@akana_Ай бұрын
@@n1vca yeah it's just lots of flutter on my tape recorder. the clutch gear bushing is wearing out and i haven't been able to find a replacement yet, might try 3d printing a new part. it's a Sony WM-F46 if you're interested. my receiver is a DSP/digital one, very solid radio, it's definitely my recorder that's the problem.

@@n1vca Honestly, for most things I do use digital recording. But sometimes, using old tape can be fun. Its imperfections make it fun to use, imo. I am also quite young, so there is an element of novelty to using cassette recorders.

My father was a radio announcer who voiced those minute announcements in English for the NRC a very long time ago. I don't know if they were re-recorded since or not. The audio is so scratchy I can't say for certain but that may be his voice. He also did work for the National Film Board of Canada and every once in a while I'll watch an old film on YT and hear him narrating it.
@akana_Ай бұрын
@@sansnom508 oh hey that's a cool heritage! according to NRC's website, the english is that of Harry Mannis (a former CBC announcer). Hope that helps :)
@sansnom508Ай бұрын
@akana_ If that's what the NRC says then I must be mistaken. Perhaps they were rival competitors for the title of Time Lord, lol. It was a long time ago. My father and Harry Mannis were contemporaries at the CBC and had the same measured delivery and impeccable pronunciation and grammatical skills required to be on the CBC airwaves at the time. The CBC, NFB and NRC are vital parts of my Canadian heritage.

Is it a numbers station?
@akana_Ай бұрын
@@kiopah Nope, this is CHU, a time signal broadcast operated by the Canadian National Research Council (NRC). Transmitters in Ottawa. The station broadcasts 24/7 on three shortwave frequencies, and 14670khz tends to be the only frequency receivable this far west. Note: at the top of the minute, the announcement of the UTC time is in both French and English :)

@@Flea-Flicker This is the radio station CHU, operated by Canada's National Research Council (NRC). CHU is a shortwave broadcast of a time signal generated by an atomic clock. Each beep you hear is one second passing. At the end of each minute, an announcer says the time of the next minute in both french and english, followed by a tone to mark the start of the minute.
