This sax part was added, post-1985. The original, by Ritchie Cannata (find it on YT), is the best version. It's laid back and cool, like the song, itself. The new version screams for attention, and doesn't fit the mood of the song. Compare both versions, but you may have a devilish time finding the original.

I bought this on tape a few years after it came out. Wish I'd had it on CD, don't know if this release was offered on CD. I did buy the re-release and enjoyed it immensely. I know Phil probably prefers the re-release, but there were some special qualities to this one that hit me in ways that words just don't convey. I really love the orchestration. The songs are still great on the newer one, but to be honest, 'the radio flyer' takes me places!

I watched his 100th Madison Square Garden show and I think I like his "mature, maybe 1/2 step lower" voice better. He's a grandmaster musician and songwriter with few equals, ever - I Love and admire this guy.

This was playing in a Supermarket in Ireland this afternoon. It took me right back to when I was thirteen. We had a lot more freedom way back in the 70's in the UK. Who remembers when you could buy an Air Rifle from a Kays Catalogue? How times have changed.

As a teenager i would walk through the streets with my air rifle. If I did that today I'd have a helicopter flying overhead & a police armed response unit yelling at me to lay down! Yes, times have changed!

this song along with grace slick singing "love too good" were the best female led songs of 1978 but were never heard. donna summer had great songs but was heard non stop. linda ronstadt was a gimmick for redneck bar jukeboxes.

this song is 45 years old in 2023. this song was never aired in 1978 but low class pollution like billy joel and the blues brothers soul man was played non stop. the freaks without any talent always get the most radio play.

This was recorded about nine months after then-President Ford gave a speech denying federal assistance to spare New York from bankruptcy. New York was in many ways a hellhole back then, yet clearly loved so deeply by so many people, then and now. What a timeless song, really, about nostalgia for a place you once lived in.

Great work, thanks. Renaissance were great music and great musicians. This song was in the British charts in 1978, not my favourite but at least a commercial success for the band. Listen to Opening out, Song for a dreamer and A song for all seasons (title track) from the same album. These belong to their real œvre...

I've been to lots of parts of New York except Long Island and the Bronx After visiting twice and seeing the main cities l realized how beautiful NY is even though Matthatten has no beaches but a small terrain next to an ice cream shop. I do want to see the bays in Long Island hopefully in 2025. Going to Boston this year for my 46th bday.

I'd be very surprised if Mike Oldfield never asked Renaissance singer Annie Haslam to work with him on one of his own projects, as I'm convinced that they would definitely complement each other and their styles would blend tigether perfectly. The late, great Judith Durham did an excellent cover version of it in 1997 and it is also available to view on KZbin. A timeless, evergreen classic.

I remember this song as it was included in '20 Rock Legends' released round about that time and which my sister had bought. It had other songs by other artists such as Cold as Ice, Evil Woman. I've always loved this song which seems to be a mix of pop, rock and folk.

OMG what a voice annie haslam had what a beautifully sung song it always reminds me of the time i was leaving school about to go out into the big wide world which was in peacetime then and how its changed for the worse now its amazing how music creates memories they dont make music like this anymore what a shame it was a classic in its day
