The cost of battery storage systems can vary depending on the technology and scale of the system. Here are some recent estimates: - The volume-weighted average price of lithium-ion battery packs across all sectors is expected to rise to **$152 per kWh** in 2023³. - Lithium-ion battery pack price dropped to **$139 per kWh** in 2023². - Industry estimates suggest a range of **$300 to $600 per kWh** for a 1 MW battery storage system⁴. - Lithium battery cell pricing has plummeted by approximately 50%, with publicly available prices ranging from **$110 to $130 per kWh**⁵. Please note that these are estimates and actual prices can vary based on factors such as the specific technology used, the scale of the system, and installation costs. It's always a good idea to get quotes from multiple providers to ensure you're getting the best price. Boss Wooldridge is a leader among the very best men and woman. Its a leadership that's rarely seen today. he took the best aviators fighter pilots, brought them to levels of competence they couldn't believe. "Glad to be here" four words that have tremendous impacts on how to get to extraordinary levels of human and aviation technology. We (Civilians) can all take away life changing improvements. The I Max movie took my breath away, and have watched on Prime six times so far. Taking notes even. Why ? Because I am 59 years old and need this now maybe more than ever. I want to make a positive impact on others, and me. I believe its never too late. My goal is to meet Boss Wooldridge, in person even if briefly. I know the moment would be a memorable part of my life. Life is about meeting people that can impacts a life time. He makes good men better. I am David Priester of Lancaster Pa. and I am glad to be here.

"in Germany it works & it's the cheapest possible energy system" Sound off, Germans! Are you getting the cheapest possible energy?

The energy transition in Germany will fail in that way it has been planned. 1) no cheap natural gas anymore 2) risen costs for raw materials are making wind energy more expensive 3) no scalable storage technology is available 4) extending the grid will take decades. EON-Edis (energy company) told the commissioning of a new 110 kV line takes 7 - 12 years with permission, planning and construction. Compared to France the CO2eq/kWh was 10 times higher in April in Germany - after 24 years of a highly subsidized program. What an utter failure.

As living in Germany and keeping an eye on it for several years now I can say the following: Although it was not obvious, not even for me, the usage of coal for electricity generation dropped back to the level of 1959 although turning off the last three nuclear plants and the nuclear phase out in 2023 had no negative effect for Germany in any case. And by the way it is almost impossible to buy nuclear fuel without subsidizing Russian energy companies but nobody talks about it because it would cause serious trouble to put it scantion list in Europe. And you cannot easily change your supplier with nuclear fuel. Of course some of this success goes back a 5% decrease of electricity usage which was not only caused by energy savings but also to the extraordinary low growth rate in the economy right now, which is another complex matter. The electricity price in Germany dropped dramatically again after the price shock that was mainly caused by two things: - the shortage of natural gas (which started already a few months before the war as russians bought a part of German gas reservoirs and made sure they were intentionally not filled up before winter) - we needed to rescue France which had a lot of trouble with their nuclear plants (maintenance, corrosion problems, cracks but also Problems with cooling of the nuclear plants due to lack of water because of hot weather conditions) during that time. Now we are on our way back to an almost "normal" level for consumers and still higher for industry. Although we used to battle for the highest energy price in Europe with Denmark before the war, last time I checked we fell down on sixth place so I think we did pretty well in this troubled environment. One reason why consumer prices in Germany are generally pretty high is that a typical price of e.g. 30 cents/kWh is about 1/3 for generation and purchasing, 1/3 for transportation (grid fees, including fees for building the infrastructure) and 1/3 for fees and taxes. In Germany it is very common to have a fixed price per kWh all year at every single hour of the year. that means most consumers do not think about when they use their big appliances or even charge their cars. So energy companies hat to make sure they do not sell you the electricity too cheap or they might make losses (as they did during the natural gas shortage). But that slowly changes now so consumers can profit from shifting that to times of peak generation on the one side and avoiding the need for excessive grid extension. While the generation price fluctuates and not only goes close to zero or even below on weekends but more and more often even during the week. After holding back storage projects during the last decade, fluctuating prices and the drop in energy storage, storage is now profitable even in an highly regulated environment like Germany, without any subsidies. And this is another way to avoid the need of excessive grid extension. Next step on the agenda (law already passed, implementation slooow) is flexible grid fees which boost the effect of price dynamics even more and can help to reduce the needed grid extensions. All this helps to integrate more an more renewables into the grid. And of course we need to strengthen the grid at certain spots. While Some residential areas were set up for using resistive heating and having no issue with the wide electrification even with heating/cooling and transportation, others will definitely need some work to do. But keep in mind: Electricity lines that can take extra power to deliver PV and wind generation in one direction can also take the extra load needed for cars and heat. Digitalization can help to use the existing lines a lot more efficient than it is standard today. When we Germans introduced the EEG to start up the whole industry we were told the German grid can never take more than 4% renewables, now we are boldly on our way to 60% and still have the second place for the most stable grid in the world (after south Korea by the way) and the average grid downtime in the United States is 9 times higher than here. The increased cost for almost any raw materials, not only for wind energy as @newyorker641 mentions since the beginning of the 2020s has tons of reasons, for example, but not only: - The wildfires in California in 2021 caused a price doubling and a wait time of up to eight month to get local wood here as any capacity was bought up by the demand. - Pandemic and war caused massive delays, shortage and price increase of goods like microchips, steel, fertilizer and not to mention natural gas, mainly as base material for chemistry On the other side the prices of solar panels, pv-inverters an batteries have dropped by 50% only in the last 12 months. Solar and slowly even storage is so dirt cheep in comparison to our relatively high retail prices that you can even put PV-Panels on roofs facing to the north (if south, east and west roofs are full of course ;-) ) and now more and more businesses not only switch to solar but also to storage, which helps them for things linke peek shaving (which is a major cost factor for the individual grid costs of a company here), buying electricity at low rates or even avoiding a much more expensive grid connection with higher power which would otherwise have to be build and which can be really expensive in Germany. There might be a lot of Germans who only see their (fixed) retail price and if you refer to boulevard media and most oppositional parties you could get another impression, but if you deep dive into the numbers there is a clear trend, that everything is going to be not only fine but great in the end. And to give a personal example in the end: Before I transitioned to solar, battery, heatpump and electric car I had the following monthly payments (prices from 2016) 80€ electricity 120€ natural gas (heating) 200€ gasoline (driving) now (price from 2024, amount of energy 2023) 160€ electricity, heating and cooling (which I did not have before I got the heatpump) and driving and that is it for a two family home.

Quantum computers are aight. We’ve already developed post-quantum cryptography and mathematically it’s not going to be cracked for a long while and definitely not with quantum computers due to how quantum computers work, so unless it’s used for medical trials/scientific research trials or something similar, it’s sort of a “gimmick” when it comes to anything outside of using it for shortening computer labor time, especially when it comes to cryptography.
