My mother used to make beach plum jelly. I don’t remember wine being part of the process! Sounds good.

Red wine? Isn’t that just adding grape flavor with the plums? Why not water? (I did this last year with good results) and to that other commenter, while it may have been 10 foot tall, it still grows shrub / hedge. Not traditional tree like.

And maybe the variety itself was a dwarf…I have seen multiple different varieties of beach plum, and they mostly branch out like a shrub, most being 5 foot.

I've planted about 23 beach plum bushes on my property in southeastern MA. I've trimmed them into a hedge between properties. We got 10 gallons of them from just one bush this year! Amazing crop.. We will have to freeze some this year incase there is no crop next year, like what happened last year..

Trying to find replacement lids for trash cans is VERY annoying. Especially if the can is not perfectly round and you don't know the mfg company. It really sucks that companys' that manufacture trash cans, never list their company name or the model number anywhere on the cans they sell. WRZ 2022-02-13

Ready to start Foodscaping like they do in Geneva Switzerland? Each yard has a vegetable garden with fruit trees. Neighbors consult with each other so they can trade the food that is grown. Imagine if people did this everywhere? I have Pear, Apple & Cherry trees! They lasted through last year's winter. Hope they do again this year and then wouldn't it be wonderful to have this be the start of PA's Foodscaping!

Hello from Melbourne, Australia. I stumbled on this video when looking around at sustainability videos. I am not sure how I wound up here but I am glad I did. I really enjoyed this beach house tour. You've done a great job blending the old with the new, the memories with the present and future. I love all the little projects you did that helped make it unique and sustainable. Do you have a compost heap or compost bin on the property? If not, that could be a good project. :) All the best...

Charlie, very cool project. Reminds me of high school archeology class and the palace of King Minos on Crete. They had "light wells" to get in sunlight and get hot air out. You might also want to change the door to an overlap fence style. It would allow a lot more air while maintaining privacy. We had it on all four sides of our shower and never had an issue with ventilation, except a cool wind could get to you. At a minimum cutting the top and bottom of the door would help your draft out. Very cool backyard, and I love the DIY aspect to it.
