That I'm not sure about DDX but in the US - Arista Premium Liquid is the same developer and I also read that Photographers Formulary FA-1027 is also supposed to be the same.

Great looking negatives. My first bottle arrived yesterday. Looking forward to giving it a try. I have a photo flow hint. When opening a new bottle there is a seal under the cap. Instead of removing it I just poke a very small hole in it with a pointed object. Now I just squeeze the plastic bottle to add a drop or two. Works great and saves a step.

D76 is very easy to make at home. For one litre you need 750ml of Distilled water at 45C, Metol 2grams, Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous 100 grams, Borax 2.0 grams, Boric acid 5.0 grams. Mix about 10 grams only of Sodium Sulphite in the water before adding Metol to provide oxidisation and mix the chemicals one at a time until totally disolved in water before adding the next chemical, once thoroughly mixed add more cold distilled water to make 1 litre of stock solution. The PH at this stage should be 8.8. Thats it no Adox required. Cover you mouth, hands and eyes while handling chemicals. Enjoy.

@@fasphoto You are welcome. This was the original D76. I think Kodak might have added some other stuff to it to compensate for the varied quality of tap water, but with the use of distilled water the use of those chemicals becomes unnecessary.

XLNT video in every respect. Learned a ton of tips on the Ferrania film stocks. Dying to use now!!! In your mind, why did you use ADOX D76 over Kodak D76??? Any developing differences would be appreciated? Thanks again, Jim C from Las Vegas, NV.
@fasphoto
@fasphoto 3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Jim. Initially the main reason was it's availability in a 1 liter size vs Kodak at the time, available only to make 5 liters of stock, but it looks like Kodak is now also making a 1 liter size again. There are some other improvements as stated in the Freestyle Film description page - ( The new ADOX D-76 has significantly lower dissolving temperatures, as well as the Captura® technology that allows dust-free mixing. Additionally, all the borates were removed and replaced with a non-toxic biodegradable buffer. - The results and usability are identical to the old recipe.) So I figured I give it a try.

Why did you pull at 200?
@fasphoto

I pulled because the max shutter speed is only 1/200 of a second with this camera and pulling the film can also help in giving a little better latitude, especially on bright contrasty days.

You have excellent results. It really is a lovely film. I've tested it in Kodak D-76, XTol, and just recently, Flic Film's Black, White & Green developer ( I have videos on my channel ). All my tests were at box speed. I really think this film will look even better at EI 80. I've also done a lot of testing with P30 in 35mm and 120, as well as their Orto film. They are all very special films. Cheers!

How close are they do you think in the way they render the tones? Which one has better grain? Or grainier?
@fasphoto
@fasphoto 5 ай бұрын
Based on shooting Kentmere 400 only in 120 so far and developing both films only in Rodinal. I think the grain is pretty close but I feel HP5 has slightly better latitude, tone wise. I'm planning on shooting some 35mm Kentmere 400 in the near future where I'll get a better feel on how I feel about the grain but so far in 120 it's I've gotten some nice results and for the price I feel it's worth a try. How it fairs with different developers and in 35 mm, we will see but so far for it's been pretty nice.

Can’t really go wrong with that nice Clayton at 1:9. I find it works better on some films than others, but is a fine all-around developer. I use it for 35mm and 120 films with great results. If stored properly, it lasts for a good while, also.

Thank you so much for that nice and informative video. The combination of the Adox D-76 developer (stock solution) and the Ferrania Orto 50 ISO film stock looks like a winning combination. The shadow detail looks good and highlights are nice and not blown out. I also like the contrast. I was wondering if you used a filter. I almost always shoot black and white film with a yellow filter. May have to try the Ferrania Orto 50 with a filter and without just to compare results. Anyway, another great video. Thanks!

Thanks Chris. I too use a yellow filter from time to time with b&w film but I chose not to with this film since it's not sensitive to red to begin with. Could be interesting to find out which would be a good filter for this type of film. Something to research and experiment with in the future.
