What about using e fuel for airplanes and ships ?
@jonassimon2412
@jonassimon2412 6 ай бұрын
The word e-fuel is just one word for different types of fuel. There’s something called SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) or also known as e-kerosene. And there is also fuel for ships. But in the refinery process of the e-crude (the raw fluid every e-fuel is made of) many products arise which have different densities: wax, Diesel, petrol, kerosene, etc. And that’s why it makes absolutely no sense why we should allow e-kerosene but prohibit e-Diesel.

But this cannot be solved by all electric vehicles . Industry has to change and more goods made locally , and there has to be more investment into energy research , and not wait for Fusion which is decades away. Also goods should be made repairable and stop the throw away culture , and recycling should be made a culture worldwide ( which the UN has failed to ask for ) Business and industry models will have to be changed to take care of repairability and lack of sales , just as the financial sector will have to adapt

Wind and solar power are a very low EROI (energy return on energy invested) energy source when compared to hydrocarbon fuels (taking into account full cradle-to-grave energy costs), arguably way below the level needed to maintain our modern society (for reference, see "The Unpopular Truth: about Electricity and the Future of Energy" 2022 by Lars Schernikau & William Hayden Smith. See also "Spain’s Photovoltaic Revolution: The Energy Return on Investment" (SpringerBriefs in Energy) 2013th Edition by Pedro A. Prieto). Nuclear-powered electricity generation can have EROI’s 2 orders of magnitude higher, especially with the newer, safer and more efficient SMR’s (such as the NuScale VOYGR SMR recently certified by the US NRC). This means that electricity should become much cheaper than is possible with conventional green tech. Prometheus Fuels is in the process of commercializing a CO2/H2O to electrofuels process at costs which are projected to be cost competitive with fossil fuels, blowing the cost argument against them out of the water (pun intended). So don’t count e-fuels out for cars just yet.

I wonder how long it took the children in the DRC mines to get the cobalt for those 1,000,000 batteries. Average weight of an EV battery is what like 450kg? Being really really generous. 450 x 1,000,000 = 450,000,000 tons of battery. That's a lot of slave labour. There's also no evidence for any of the claims made in this video. There is no perfect solution to the energy/greed problem. But we can strike a balance and hopefully make efficient travel and consumption of bullshit as green as possible.
@basvantilt774

450 kg of cobalt in a battery? Get your facts straight please. More and more cobalt free batteries are being built everyday. Cobalt is also used for fossil fuel production, but for this child labour is ok? Or for production of clothes? Working conditions are the problem, not a single mineral of product. Selective outrage.

I assume you have already done your research If not, even if the batteries for electric cars were produced in the most polluting way, your electric was extremely inefficient and the power you get was from a coal plant, after 100k km it will still be way greener than any combustion engine car

This is totally disingenuous video. 5x more electricity... yeah renewable energy. They will produce pollution yeah... at the "wheel" while being captured at the "well". If we capture CO2, and CO and methane..etc etc and just convert it back into e-fuel then its a net zero solution. Who is promoting this video, it makes no genuine arguments.

Where’s your electricity coming from? Where’s the precious metals for the batteries coming from? How are the two aforementioned items harvested and from where? What are the environmental implications for harvesting and disposing of materials for these e vehicles? These are the answers that NONE of the pro e-vehicle ads/ manufacturers/ scientists will divulge. This is a highly politicized topic, either answer the questions or go away.

Not to mention that by 2050, e-fuel (petrol variant) is expected to cost around (conservatively) £1.2 / litre. Once again, you can shove batteries up your arse.
@rc935
@rc935 2 жыл бұрын
You will not win against e-fuels, you can shove batteries up your arse. They will be carbon neutral, like EV's, however EV's production emissions are over double an ICE production emissions. EV's will cause energy black-outs, environmental toxicity problems from battery disposal & sourcing, cause the world to run out of lithium, ruin the pleasure of driving, lithium is almost solely sourced from China, e-fuels can be created on any type of land in any country, elminiating reliance on other countries for fuel, e-fuels also work seamlessly with any era of combustion engines, they allow motorsport to continue, lets not even get into the fire hazards batteries in cars cause, and the weight issues. I could go on and on.

E fuels use co2 to be produced, the co2 emited is the same that was used before, so yes they are green(or almost). The production just needs to be improved to waste less energy. E fuels are getting known because they prevent the killing of the automobile culture, because lots of people love combustion cars, simple.

I think efuels can make cars as carbon neutral as possible. Yes, it will still emit carbon and others but it will be captured by plants and/or the fans from the factory in Chile producing the fuel. There’s got to be some balance between electric cars, fuel cells, efuels, etc. They should be given a chance and not turned away.
@fort6564
@fort6564 Жыл бұрын
have you looked at precisly where in chile its produced? You cannot go more south than where its produced, so getting that efuel around the world where its needed will be another head. Besides, it will pollute even more since we will either need to use planes, trucks and or airplanes to transport it thousands of km to places where its actually needed.

Please, if you tend to be scientific, mark temperature of this "cloud", I see hot gases on this video. If you have expensive flir camera, use it's potential and do it scientific way. Access the ship, measure it in controlled manner, use methane sensor on drone flying in this "cloud"... For now I could only see spreading rumours based on fears with no sensible data. Your methodology could prove methane clouds from any exhaust pipe, even at your ship you were filming from.
