Loved that MTU 78. Anytime Byrne draws a hot babe in a steel bikini, i'm there.

Marvel horror was fun, but not near the level of DC horror. DC horror had a kind of EC flavor to it. Likely due to Joe Orlando's stewardship.

I was never a big reader of Hulk or Alpha Flight growing up. But I did enjoy a few occasional issues.

The 1990s Guardians of the Galaxy is a fun comic. They brought back Shamrock in one issue with quite a bit of respect for Irish history.

All the early Epic titles were great! Dreadstar was my favourite (at least until Vanth gained superpowers and started wearing a superhero costume), but Alien Legion was a close second, especially once Chris Warner took over the art duties.

I HATED the superhero costume and powers. He became the most generic hero of all, with his "power punch." I quit the book until First Comics picked up the book.

Alien Legion-YES! The thing the disappointed me in the Epic brand was them doing Marvel characters like Havok and Wolverine. Electra Assassin as well.

I absolutely love Doomsday Squad (or Doomsday +1). TBH I prefer Byrne's art on stuff like Doomsday +1 and Rog 2000 to anything he's done since he worked on West Coast Avengers.

Chaykin is one of those artists who, for me, is not as great as he used to be. But he still writes well. And though his faces bug the heck outta me, he can storytell like no other.

Well, he's always drawn the main character/protagonist the same. Dominic Fortune, Ruben Flagg, Monarch Skystalker and others. Buy, yeah, he can storytell like no other. American Flagg is, to me, his top work, letting the lettering become part of the art and other stuff.

If you like John Paul Leon's art you should check out Zenith from 2000AD, especially Zenith phases 2 and 3. Steve Yowell was the artist and his style on those two phases is very reminiscent of JPL's style (although I think Yowell came first).

I got that Worlds Finest a few years ago from this old Grouch that sold comics at a flea market and out of his house! It's a weird story, but a real Bob Haney type yarn ! Ha ha, I loved Bob Haney on that title and Brave and the bold ! And I really loved Dick Dillan ! I think the first JLA I can remember purchasing was the JLA against the Freedom Fighters ! The old Quality Comics heroes , doll man , Uncle Sam, human bomb, the awesome Phantom lady, who I found out later had some of the Coolest and Hottest covers in the Golden Age that had worthem in a tizzy ! Ha ha, thank you drew for another great video of insight into probably my favorite entertainment, comic books !!!!!!

Byrne's Superman comics are surprisingly cheap, at least here in the UK. I bought most of the run a few weeks ago, including #1, for £1 each. The only Byrne issue that I haven't found for £1 is Superman #4, but that's because it's the first appearance of Bloodsport.

His early stuff had several Gil Kane swipes. I remember a panel that showed DD punching a thug during a fight at the waterfront. I think it was #159. He probably needed something to help him get comfortable on the book. And then he evolved from there. Some artists don't evolve and keep ripping off artists, especially in the 1990s

@@Randomcomicsfrommyspinne-xt5kq yeah, I don't mind homages or swipes, but give credit where it's due. Byrne would add a little "after Kirby" or "after Ditko" when drawing a certain pose for a scene.

I don't know if it's the Karl Story inks or Brian Stelfreeze pencils, but the Cycops art reminds me of Terry Austin. If it was Stelfreeze who added the orderly lines I'd guess Austin was an influence.

They did wake the Avengers up by scooting Vision and Wanda out of there for most of the 80s as well as Wonder Man and Beast who only came back for a couple of Annuals. Moondragon tricks many of the heroes to visit and most of them have become Avengers since .

Vision and Scarlet Witch lived in the mansion for 150 issues (which I just now added in my noggin)! I missed them but it was the right choice. I really missed the Beast/Wonder Man bromance. Tigra was sorta supposed to be a comedic substitute for Beast, but she was too raw to deal as a member of a team. Shooter wrote her like a shallow person who choked at every chance, like Ghost Rider and Molecule Man. She did save the day by talking to MM as a therapist and that's when Shooter finally showed what she could bring to the table. So of course, she left at the end of #216. A total of five months. I guess she joined just for these plot devices. Roger Stern was smart to maker her a West Coast Avenger and prove her worth.

I never realised Crystar was a Marvel character. I knew Marvel did the comic, but I always figured it was a licensed comic like G.I.Joe or Transformers. Somebody at Marvel must like the character though since he's come back recently (I keep seeing a cover by Rob Liefeld featuring Crystar alongside other Marvel characters, but I have no idea what comic the cover is from).
