There is no pressure on the windpipe using the thumb. The choke is technically legal, which is the best kind of legal. 😉

@@IslandTopTeam but the rule clearly says one hand around opponents neck OR pressure to the windpipe. I can't see how your choke can be legal...I think the referee just doesn't clearly know the rules.... which I think are so stupid btw

@goku-pops7918 The hand isn't around the neck though, it is posted on the front of the neck. It has been used at very high levels with very knowledgeable refs monitoring the matches and no issues. I agree that the rules are silly, and there are definitely some refs that will interpret it as being in breach, but according to the exact language, this variation should be legal.

@@IslandTopTeam is there any chance you could put out a video making your case clearly how it doesn't break the rules. I think it will help your sales alot, and it will be something I can send my training partners after I submit them hehe

Most people do. It is only illegal if you squeeze your fingers around the windpipe or throat. If you are just posted on the neck it is fine. Check out the recent IBJJF No Gi Grand Prix, Kaynan Duarte uses this repeatedly.

I agree with prof rob but refs will definitely call a dq for something like this. Especially because they have little knowledge of the move.

There will be a full instructional on this coming soon. It's a one handed choke. My left hand was on his neck.

The commentators were on the opposite side of the action, couldn't quite see the finish. As the referee I thought it was an Ezekiel variation.
