The person intubating should have received more support…one person reconnecting circuit, another auscultation promptly… that way it takes less time. Also a co2 detector helps with confirmation tube is in trachea…if it failed the person who should manage circuit can start to bag mask infant asap.

How do you solve the problem of the saliva from the surgeons mouth getting sprayed into the operative field?

The same way you solve the problem of saliva and bacteria from the patient’s mouth getting into the operating field - you don’t. But I agree, they should be wearing a mask, for appearance sake if nothing else.
