it wasnt 90s lol.. more like 2010 ish... as MJ was scheduled to perform in that arena but passed away and peter kay replaced some of those dates.. hence the 'he shoulda been here' line... the 'walkman' im guessing is just a prop and when he presses play the sound engineers play the clip lol.. i'm sure he doesnt have to remember where to play the tape from..
