re: the inverted mental model of authoring for businesses and Patrick's question..JK Rowling is not exactly cancelled: her suite of IP still sell, and she's become a hero for gender critical feminists and social conservatives for what they'd describe as fighting back against the encroachment on women's rights from the trans movement. Trans proponents and allies, however, might describe her recent arc as a descent into madness with her constant fixation on trans people, and that she's fuelling the flames of cultural bigotry. That's basically how it shakes out: cancelled in progressive circles, lionized in conservative (and gender critical feminist circles), but lots of people (whether faintly aware of these issues or not) still consume content related to her suite of IP. That is my (attempting to be strictly factual) summation of the situation....

This woman is so insufferably insulting. Greedy, exceedingly narcissistic, making herself and her board members rich by screwing over Californians. Doing it all with a smile while patronizing customers with self-indulgent vanity commercials and "Leading with Love". Patti Poppe just got a huge raise on the backs of Californians after multiple rate hikes. All she does is lie, lie, lie. Patti Poppe is pure evil. She belongs in prison. Not propped up on a stage!!! 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

How fortunate for the Berkeley Haas that they were able to have Sadhguru speak. I would have loved to be in such a small venue to hear him speak and then to be able to ask him any question. What a gift they were given. I have to say of the many lectures and talks I have watched on KZbin I don't think there has been a more lame, unsophisticated audience. The comment about his attire was juvenile, (to be polite), and some of the others commenting had absolutely no humility whatsoever but instead considered the microphone their chance to impart their "wisdom", such as it is instead of inquiring or expounding on what Sadhguru was saying. They attempt to appear elevated or more intellectual than Sadhguru and of course it backfired and made them look foolish as they are clueless about what he is saying and it is obvious. I've noticed this pompous attitude only among the American universities and their professors and students when he has been invited to speak. The ignorance and arrogance of Americans in general is annoying but when it bleeds into the academic population, a group of people who should innately and intentionally declare, I DO NOT KNOW and be humble enough, and patient enough, and curious enough and astute enough to put their pomposity in check, but as Berkeley Haas proved once again Americans, the educated class, just are not up for anyone who is not trying to tell them how to be the King of America, how to make tons of money while hiding the exploitation of humanity their wealth and the utter longing for wealth that they could never spend. The american dream. What an embarrassment. My apologies Safhgureji! for these so called educated people. They haven't a clue what you are talking about and their phone and the money changers, that own them, have them believing they are the top of the food chain. They are not, nor are they fit to eat. So there's that. Way to go Berkeley. SMH

20:15 Nvidia almost went out of business 7 times. Building a company is new skill, that no books can properly describe the circumstances you'll be in. You'll learn 1) building with so few resources, 2) the immense resources of your competition. 25:30 Making a lot of cash creating a lot of value as business gives you the opportunity to do a lot of great things - that otherwise likely wouldn't get done. Drive a great business, but also drive great impact - a company with a great business, but also a great sense of purpose. 27:50 The Innovator's Dilemma book. 30:50 As a startup, your great gift is not knowing what can't be done - that you want to stay in the naive state ("foolish") for quite a long time. 31:50 Reading books. Positioning by Al Ries and Jack Trout. 36:50 You've got to be resilient to be great. 43:20 A CEO should strive to be both deep and wide - to have the attitude that you'll be able to make a contribution and bring perspective to all different teams, divisions, special fields, etc. 44:00 *Being CEO, a leader, an entrepreneur is a craft; so decide to dedicate yourself to the craft.* Have curiosity and deep empathy, and genuine caring for other team member's and people's work and success. 48:40 Jensen's mom wanted him to be a doctor, and dad wanted him to be a chem-E. Great careers, but they weren't his path. You've got to figure out your own path. 49:15 The next big revolution will come in digital biology. For the first time in human history, biology has the opportunity to be engineering _not_ science. When something becomes engineering, it becomes less sporadic and exponentially improving. 54:00 In the beginning of a startup, you're mostly adaptive-agility is your only instrument, because there are too many unknowns. Avoid setting up a rigid structure with org charts and empires for to people to protect, and people talking about "my people" like they own them as long as possible. But at some point, you need to evolve an execution machine that's incredible, and an innovation machine that's adaptable. 56:30 Never concerned about not being able to do anything else if it didn't work out. Kids were 1 and 2 y/o, he was 30 y/o when co-founded Nvidia. 58:20 When you make a decision to start a company or join a startup, the only thing that really matters is are you going to love the people you work with and the work you do - that you love it so much that you'll make it through all of the pain, suffering, setbacks, disappointments, and bad days that'll inevitably come your way. 59:18 All great athletes and great achievers have the ability to forget their last moment. Let the past be the past, that'll help with resilience, and as long as you love what you do, you'll be able to keep 'on keeping on. 1:00:50 ChatGPT is a very big deal. 1:07:15 When you're the CEO, the company's resources is what you manage- and it's really important that you don't squander that. His fundamental job is to create the conditions by which the company succeeds and does their best work -and selecting projects that are worthy of the company. That's really about what to choose and what not to choose - the latter is really important (opportunity costs).
