This is great footage, thank you for uploading. As I watched this, I got the feeling this was actually recorded in 1980 instead of 84. Theres no UP power mixed in on the MoPac. The CR unit on the lead of the MKT train is a GP38-2 model, which they were leasing from CR in 1980. Different from the GP40s they purchased later. My final piece of evidence is at the 6:35 mark. You can see that the front end of the pick up trucks matches to a 1979 or 1980 model GMC Seirra. If it was an 83 or 84 model, it woild have the split head lights.

If you are going to spend 2k on a reproduction, why not spend an extra 500 to 1000 and get yourself a REAL Colt 2nd generation from 1956 to 1959? Those early 2nd gen revolvers are incredible for fit and finish and they have the PONY stamped on them! You can find these guns used and in excellent condition on Guns International everyday! You can find them unfired and in the boxes for around 4k.

That's a beautiful gun. It is too bad about the drag lines on the cylinder though.

The weather certainly did close in. I was working at the 301FW and my wife was working at the 2048 Comm Sq - both tenant units at the time - and we sought shelter at the 2048 data building. Another bldg designated to the 2048th sustained heavy water damage during the storm and a colleague of my wife's and I went over to give them a hand. Thanks for this.

Was the Doodlebug also in Garland in 1995? There is another video on youtube that shows the Doodlebug going to Garland. Your video says 1994, the other says 1995. I'm just checking to see if it went there multiple years or if the other video made a mistake on the year?

My memory was that they operated on occasion for a couple of years. This event had been announced in the news and we went to see it. Neil

@@NeilADahl Thank you for replying. I believe at some point later in 1995 the old AT&SF rails from near Fair Park all the way to near the bridge over White Rock Creek were removed. I know in your video the old T&P rails right next to Fair Park can be seen. There was a diamond where the AT&SF and T&P crossed with an exchange track next to it. That's how the Doodlebug got to Garland. After the old AT&SF rails were removed, the remainder of the line was rerouted over the old Southern Pacific rails which are still there. The reroute happened by new rail being built and installed for a few hundred yards from the AT&SF ROW and the Southern Pacific ROW. KCS never goes south past the Zacha Junction yard now. An occasional DGNO might, or a UP from their Dallas yard. I'm saying all of this because I think that Doodlebug might have been to final train to go over part of the original AT&SF tracks in Dallas before the rails were removed.

I enjoyed the pacing video along Highway 6; I was standing in the median of Highway 6 to photograph 4014 as it crossed over a small trestle south of Riesel; I don't think I made the cut in your video. 😉

Question>> Why is always there a diesel electric loco attached with the big boy? Detailed explanation solicited.... First response to be acknowledged by the quizzer and blessed heartily...
@NeilADahl15 күн бұрын
Partly for backup but also for PTC (positive Train Control) to operate on the system. Thare were times on this last trip that BB operated for short periods without the diesel. Neil
